Manager New York USA Weak leadership and heads-in-the-sand management, despite some talented people Pros: -Smart, hardworking, talented people (for the most part) -Competitive pay -Good work/life balance, including remote working -Terrific perks -Generally positive and inclusive culture Cons: -High turnover, especially among senior team members and leaders -Conflicting cultures between SiriusXM and Pandora -Continual rescopes for individuals, often causing confusion and attrition -Different teams (specifically some closer to SiriusXM) held to different standards of performance, process, and communication -Concerns about the future of the company post-SiriusXM acquisition, which have yet to be addressed -Lack of action and responsibility towards unproductive and free-willing team members that create a negative working environment Advice to senior leadership and management: Stop minimizing the frustrations, challenges, and concerns being expressed by your employees and teams. Be actionable about feedback. Get your key goals and areas of focus in place, and clearly communicate them to your teams. 1.0 0.0 2.0 5.0 2.0 2.0 5.0 1.0 Jan 14th, 2021 08:17PM Mar 20th, 2021 01:19PM Pandora Media Consumer Services Media

Ad Producer Oakland, CA USA Average Corporate Life There were great people there but managers were not among them. I learned eventually that I was hired on a fluke because my manager had panicked in a time of unusual busyness, hiring me as a stop-gap measure so that more veteran members of the team could focus on more important work. After 2 years, I never moved to a different position, got no pay raises, and my managers had no plans to help me move to any of the other projects or positions I expressed interest in. It felt very oppressive and heartless of them and I was pretty hurt by how trapped I felt. Perhaps this is how it is at most corporate companies but I just long for more humanity in the workplace, that was not to be found at Pandora at all. 2.0 0.0 3.0 4.0 3.0 2.0 4.0 1.0 Jan 14th, 2021 08:17PM Mar 20th, 2021 01:19PM Pandora Media Consumer Services Media

nyse:p https://www.indeed.com/cmp/pandora-media,-inc./reviews Nov 3rd, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Open Pandora Media, Inc. Senior Analyst for Pandora Oakland, CA USA Pandora was a roller coaster - in good and bad ways My journey at Pandora was unique, so the extent to which it can represent what the "typical" experience is like (especially for those new to the company) may be limited. I joined Pandora as a Sales intern back in 2010. Back then, Pandora was still very much on the rise, thanks in large part to the explosion of the iPhone (still only 3 years old at the time, and not nearly as gorged with applications in the AppStore as it is now). The culture was teeming with excitement, and an all-hands-on-deck approach. New teams and branches of the organization were spawning quarterly. It was exciting. Fast forward a couple years to 2013, and Pandora had its IPO on the NYSE, and was focusing on fleshing out its advertising sales options. The culture was still exciting, but there were significant growing pains, with Pandora consistently missing its quarterly earnings targets and operating in the red. There was still marked enthusiasm and an optimism that we would "right the ship." And we were working on cool new products and sales opportunities. Then, in 2015, after a number of high-profile acquisitions (Next Big Sound, Ticketfly, and rival streaming service Rdio), the lack of profitability coupled with new competitors in the space (Apple and Spotify) gaining marketshare, cracks began to show. We had a series of layoffs that touched many of the teams I worked with, and reorgs hit the company hard. Being a loyalist to the company given my background, I stuck with it, but looking back, this would have been a good time to leave and gain new experience elsewhere. I still had strong internal opportunities which I took advantage of (working in Marketing and closely with the Science team, as well as the Music Industry Relations team), but I didn't account for the cost of working in an environment with severe "brain drain" and leadership vacuums at senior management, VP and C-Suite level - particularly in Marketing and Strategy. By the time I left (last March), those leadership voids had been more-or-less filled, but the direction of the company felt stagnant -- there was little room for anything beyond ("stay afloat") and "cut costs to survive" in the form of relocations, reorgs, and watching as we continued to lose ground to competitors in use and cultural relevance (especially among the younger demographics). As for now, it's been almost a year since I left, but I would venture to guess that, if the culture continued going in the same direction, it's quite corporate now, as I continue to see a stream of the "old-timers" leaving - for better or worse. As far as work-life balance goes, it was always great, and the people were kind, generous, and good at what they did. Smart. 2.0 0.0 4.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 4.0 3.0 Jan 14th, 2021 08:17PM Mar 20th, 2021 01:22PM Pandora Media Consumer Services Media
