They have an amazing culture, very inclusive (they have an LGBTIQA+ club, they organize a Drag Race every year and other awareness events) and with lots of fun social events both in their Amsterdam and Chicago offices. The engineering culture is also great, collaborative and open.

They pay is below market average especially within the engineering department. This topic was brought up many times before and led to many senior software engineers leaving the company (5-8 engineers in one year). Their bonus pay is also tied to the company sales and profits (which the engineering department obviously has no control over).

Protolabs offers an incredible manufacturing service that could absolutely become the gold standard in the manufacturing industry. There are many INCREDIBLY talented workers here that are always willing to help each other out.

The way the company is managed is clunky and frustrating. Many mixed expectations from team to team, constant process changes and what sometimes feels like finger pointing. This has led to very low office moral and turnover.
