Good people, bad management

In general, the people here were fantastic to work with. There will always be a few bad apples here and there, but in general it was a pleasant place to work, and I was happy most days to come to work. It’s a great place to get your foot in the door of the data center industry.

Work life balance is non-existent. Ever since the company was bought by Blackstone, there has been a much higher focus on financial data over anything else. This has led to hiring less than qualified people for lower pay, major understaffing issues, and annual “raises” that don’t even compensate for inflation, meaning you actually start losing money the longer you work here. Due to massive understaffing I on more than a few occasions was “asked” to work weekends, holidays, and swing/night shifts, when I had explicitly told management that due to the birth of my new child, I wouldn’t be able to cover, and was promised reasonable accommodation. I was at that point told that even though my hiring letter stating a Monday through Friday day shift schedule, that didn’t matter and the company could make me work any schedule required.
I saw on more than one occasion an internal employee get passed over for a promotion in favor of an external hire. One of those employees had been doing the duties of the role above them for over a year, and when they interviewed for that very position, they got told “you have no experience in this, so we can’t promote you”. That position then went to an outside hire with not only no experience in the role, but no experience in the data center industry at all.
This is a great place to get your foot in the door, but if you are looking to move up in a company, get your feet wet here and move on to somewhere else.

QTS is a company that really seeks for the right fit. QTS is a christian based company. The CEO is OPENLY focused on its principles being bible based. Expect prayer at townhall meetings when he is on the agenda.

If I could think of a negative it would be that QTS has some benefits of working from home but very, very few opportunities for fully remote.

Competitive pay/benefits. Genuinely great, intelligent people work here. Focus on sustainability and giving back to communities.

CEO is incredibly conservative, letting his personal beliefs bleed into the business and company policies/programs. Public CEO-led prayer is uncomfortable/not inclusive. Lacking in diversity, particularly at leaderhip levels. CPO has no HR experience, and it clearly shows. C-Suite seems like a "boys club" with the power to terminate employees who challenge decisions or don't align to their beliefs.

Actually DO what you SAY you're going to do! You ask for feedback on the employee survey, then selectively choose topics that you think will be easy to address. Leadership did not share the actual results of the survey, particularly those with the lowest scores (diversity/culture/leadership). Similarly, QTS says has a group for "belonging & engagement"...but notice that the words "diversity" and "inclusion" are noticeable (and intentionally) absent. Lastly, actually show that you care about ethics...I witnessed several unethical decisions (and even reported one), but never saw any result of my report.
