The work environment is fantastic.
|
When I started with the company it was my full intention to leave. I was just planning on using it as a jumping off point from my other job. However, the work environment and the people are second to none. I have never worked at a company that I enjoyed more. The supervisors are fantastic and the people are very nice and very helpful. A lot of the days I am scheduled off. I come into work and make overtime. Starting pay is $18 an hour, not the 15 in the review

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing really. Got hurt at work and broke my foot. Couldn't walk or anything. Never took me to the doctor for my broken foot just to drug test me. All safety cared about was losing their bonus for a lost time accident. Management is trash.
What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The bosses are always looking for a reason to fire you. The bosses wouldn't lock out equipment but if you forgot it's instant termination.
What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Dirty,nasty,and hostile when management is around.
What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Show up. Get yelled at in the morning meetings. Go to work for 12 to 24 hours and get chewed out the next morning. Rinse and repeat.

This is is a fast moving ship, I work at the Katy Corporate office. They are constantly showing employees appreciation and in house networking opportunities.
If you are resistant to change, this might not be the place for you. If you like to be challenged and wear multiple hats then you will fit right in. At U.S. Silica, you are not just a number. You can see the impact that you make in the organization.
You are given a high sense of autonomy in your work. Depending on which department you are supporting the work load varies. I overall, am happy with this opportunity. I see a clear career progression for the next few years. You need to be vocal about what you want in regard to your career because they will help you get ready for the next step!
If you work at the Katy office, you can connect with senior leadership, as they have their offices located in house. They are warm and welcoming to the employees and the CEO walks around the office to say hi to employees.
The people here are kind and willing to lend a helping hand.

Wrong people in charge

The employees are good people but it seems that management wants to puts people in charge that shouldn't be. Management has no respect for you as a person and treat people like an easily replaced number but in reality everyone suffers because they can't keep any decent help. Only good thing is the pay but your breathing in Silica dust all day

Promotion is not on a merit basis, but rather on who has better accolades. Some VPs believe in operating within their top circle without expressing any concern for the welfare of the people below.
Some managers are quite inept and insecure, to the point that they compete with their own direct reports.

It's a fast moving company so if you need something (questions, ideas, training, etc.), just ask. Management has always been great at listening to needs and accommodating. I always stay busy and am always learning. I love my co-workers and have met some amazing people at US Silica. This company has their heart in the right spot in both culture and integrity.
