There are too many inexperienced people in executive positions that just don’t understand how to build culture. Culture is everything and it’s unfortunate that so many people have left and will continue to leave. There are so many people in the wrong positions.

Meaningful job, not great work culture
|
|
Working with families and matching their needs to the right products is extremely rewarding. I loved the variety of the work, the critical thinking and problem solving.
|
Company culture left a lot to be desired. Chronic understaffing means more pressure on fewer employees. New employees not adequately trained. Management critical of mistakes, not open to feedback. The commission structure kept changing, requiring more hustling for the same pay.

Management not knowledgeable of field

2nd largest funeral/cemetery company in the states.
|
Management brought in from admin or other industries, no direct cemetery experience.
Co-workers not being held to the same expectations by management.
Too much time spent on customer service and areas that don't bring commission.
No support from admin, everything falls back on family service counselors.
High turnover with maintenance staff and family service counselors, and the support staff that are there long term are treated horribly.
The cemetery needs a full audit, missing records, resold gravesites, people buried and not recorded, records not updated.

Very rewarding job meeting with families
|
Upper management asks for constant feedback, but never actually listen. Terrible micromanagement and when you attempt to provide feedback to GMs and AVPs they do not listen. You are constantly degraded if you are not meeting your minimum sales budget and are not treated like a decent human being. You are told in the interview process you are only expected to work your 40hrs + 1 call night a week with alternating Saturdays. What they do not tell you is that you 1) do not get another day off during the week if you are also working 9-5 Saturday and 2) you are EXPECTED to work Saturday if you are not on pace to hit budget. The budgets are outrageous and are hardly ever met yet they just keep increasing budgets and expect more work out of their employees. There is no work life balance and managements response to this is “this is a sales position”. They do not care about the actual customer service, yet expect 5 star reviews.
Terrible benefits.
Run away from this company!

Listen to those providing feedback. Not everything is black and white. Maybe you would have less turnover rate if you treated your employees with kindness instead of constantly degrading them and demanding more work than they are capable of.
