Sensient's approach and focus has remained unchanged over the years, I like this consistancy. Sensient emphasizes customer focus more than any company I have worked for, this is someting that motivates me and makes me proud of the results. Many parts of the business are very developed and with excellent systems, while other parts have room to be further developed. For people who really want to work hard, improve and change things, the company provides you the runway to grow and suceed. Great onboarding and training, significant focus on performance management, coaching, and development. Do not work here. Very toxic and unethical workplace. Very understaffed and with high turnover. Management had four out of ten employees in our department fired for no strong reason (they “didn’t catch on fast enough” even though they barely had training) and did not rehire, leaving workers to shoulder the burden, in an already very understaffed department. Nothing is ever good enough for management as they don’t know how to track their worker’s productivity, besides how many orders you entered, never mind the hundreds of emails with many order changes and tasks that you basically have to ignore in order to get orders entered, that is all they care about because that is the only thing upper management sees, but customers suffer. Customers would go days without replies because the workload is way too high. They need to hire more people but “it’s not approved” because of the expense and management wanting to look good, while hiding the fact that work is not getting done and customers aren’t getting replied to promptly. Management does not attempt to resolve the many, many broken or non existent processes. Lots of gossip, including management holding meetings after firing someone to tell us all about it and threaten us with losing our job if we fall behind in work. And gossiping about the ex employee freely and meanly after. Also, yelling at employees and humiliating them in front of peers. A quarterly report is sent out on all of the people who were fired and why in order to scare employees. Signs everywhere about ways you can be fired. Very bad environment of fear, intimidation, and incompetence. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? If you want to make good money and have to worry about getting fired. This is the best place for it. Pay is decently good, but not worth all of the stress. Corporate culture is “business professional” in their dress, but is mind bogglingly blind to their issues and how they come across. Gossipy. Threatening signs in the warehouse and office about all the ways you can and will be fired. Corporate treats employees like potential criminals. Very high turnover and regular sudden departures. Management operates through fear and intimidation and could use a leadership 101 course. They skew metrics to make themselves look good. They don’t address problems that affect their staff every day. Facilities are horribly taken care of, bathrooms are gross, there is a bug problem, and the temperature control is bad. No work life balance. Always working overtime and unable to catch up. They don’t hire enough people to cut down on “department spend” and you will be overwhelmed with work until you burn out and leave. Uppermost management is bullheaded and denies culture problems, and believes that the company is just not for everyone. The truth is employees are only a number and management is very short sighted and only cares about their profits. They have been making a lot of changes from corporate and there isn't much discussion of why. With heavy turnover in CS they have not evened out workloads to assist. If you go into it with a short-term mindset that it's only get some experience you'll be fine. The advancement opportunities ARE NOT WORTH IT. Two harvest seasons are enough. Other companies will be willing to hire you for better pay and way,way less stress. Just look at the constant job postings that are advertised. That is proof enough it's a meat grinder.
