My experience at TransAlta has been deeply disappointing. The company's toxic work culture, low pay, and lack of commitment to its values have created an incredibly challenging environment. Layoffs are frequent, leading to a constant sense of instability and fear among employees. Additionally, the leadership is ineffective, lacking transparency and empathy. It is disheartening to witness the disregard for employee well-being and the erosion of trust. I would greatly caution others seeking employment at TransAlta to carefully consider the potential impact on their mental health and career growth. It could very well be one of the worst companies to work at in Calgary.

Co-workers are mostly friendly and nice to work with,

Management is horrible and they have no direction or long term strategy. It is not a respectful atmosphere and the company is widely known in Calgary as a sweatshop. The pay and benefits are not competitive in the industry and they overwork staff to the point where people are often forced to go on stress leave. The Executives talk about valuing "psychological safety" which is only a buzzword at TransAlta. The Executives and management do not care about staff or their wellbeing. It is an extremely toxic environment and I would warn anyone from working here.

Money and people were good.

Pay was great, great schedule and time off. People were good. Good overtime opportunities. Safe atmosphere generally, was never dismissed if I brought up anything concerning.
|
Union atmosphere was toxic, too many incompetent workers were shielded from accountability due to fear of the union. Some favoritism that was poorly disguised.
