Lots of work not a lot of room for career advancement
Beautiful place to work at times. Some managers are great. If you are motivated there are opportunities for education and on the job training.
Severe weather at times, ever changing politics. Pay is below LA county standards for those that commute from the south. Cronyism and nepotism. Poor performing employees are allowed to perform poorly while high performs are not adequately compensated or acknowledged.

Staff is top heavy, lots of manager, directors, VP and not a lot of staff to address the actual work. Embrace a culture of trust and promote employees that perform well to retain good talent. Stop overspending for poorly implemented technology efforts.

Nice People, No Stability
- Good pay
- Good benefits
- Beautiful place
- Lots of challenges
- You are just a number
- No stability
- Bad business practices
Unfortunately, Tejon has a little bit of a history of laying people off due to losing money via bad business practices (not a failing economy or loss of customers). They, unfortunately, end up creating money-sinks instead of things that profit them. This isn't always laying off people 'low on the totem pole', and when the time comes anyone is fair game to get cut. There is no 'probationary' period and they use 'at-will employment' to cover most issues.

When you look at needing to make cuts because you can't manage things wisely, maybe look at the CEO (who is not Bob Stien, it's Gregory S. Bielli) who makes $3.3 mil a year along with some of the board members, etc. Not the people who help your company function day-to-day, especially when you have just under 200 employees to start with.

Not who they claim to be
They offer you a contract position that is temp to hire and upon going permanent, they offer a number of perks such as more days off at holidays, an on-site gym and a gas allowance if you live in the city and drive up the mountain every day to go to work.
The culture is frigid, employees take a long time to warm up to you and management only sees employees as a number, not a human being. They only care about numbers and seek to eliminate any positions possible to save money. They do not care about their employees at all, only the bottom line.
