In past three months, seven people left the company= not normal

Technically focused company that will challenge you to have the best product possible. Great benefits and competitive pay. Wonderful opportunity to study the Delaware, Marcellus, and Anadarko basins.
|
These come with tradeoffs. Most of the "lifers" of the company were recruited straight out of school and the company works them to death. The company is not good at keeping mid-career people because of the limited professional development opportunities. In the business unit I was in, I went through a TON of micromanagement and new leaders who do not know what empathy is. There is also under appreciation of large volumes of work--people only see the glass half empty instead of full, and everyone is so nitpicky. I think I lost a few years of lifespan working for this place due to the high stress environment. Did I mention favoritism from upper management to have a select few get promoted, lack of collaborative culture because the straight out of school hires want to prove themselves and take all the work for themselves instead of working together as a team? There is also lack of leadership opportunities and lack of 360 feedback. To give you a taste, three reservoir engineers, two landmen, and two managers left the company within the past three months. I've worked for several independents and this company takes its vices to a whole new level.

Sandwich feedback with something positive, something constructive, and end on a positive note. Life is too short for unnecessary stress. Don't let new hires get away with bad behavior (i.e lack of empathy and interrupting others to get their thoughts through), especially if they are the favorite. Stop finding excuses to not trust your employees' work--they might just have had enough and will find greener pastures like I did.
