Not All Change Is Bad

I see a lot of reviews discussing how the recent changes have been bad, but I see it as the opposite. I've been a Yexter for a while now, and I think we're finally heading in the right direction with all these changes in our processes and products. Before Mike Walrath came onboard, it felt like we were all over the place because our leaders were all big thinkers and innovators. We kept switching gears between listings, search, and answers without a clear plan. But now, things seem to be falling into place with a solid roadmap. Yes, the company culture has changed over the years, but that's just par for the course as we've grown by hundreds of people in the past half-decade. When it comes down to it, I still enjoy working with my coworkers, our offices are pretty sweet especially HQ, and I'm content with my compensation package.

While I maintain a generally positive outlook on the company, there are some drawbacks that need addressing. Senior leadership appears disconnected, often making decisions in isolation. Additionally, there have been several layoffs or what management terms 'departmental restructuring,' which has understandably caused concern among employees.

IMO, the new return-to-office policy was implemented without thorough internal consideration or vetting. Given its significant impact on over fifty percent of the company, more stakeholders from relevant departments should have been consulted. I know several managers who were blindsided by this news. Not to mention the fact that our CRO is not based in NYC which is a major red flag considering the origin of the direction...

Unfortunate changes have impacted culture

People are great. Nearly everyone I worked with on a day to day basis were great. Good people. Flexibility, lunch offered at HQ location if you work in the office. Good mat/pat leave for men and women. CEO is great. Down to earth guy, but the people under him are not creating/fostering a good culture.

New leadership took over a few years ago and the culture has shifted. It was a hard adjustment for people who were here during the previous leadership because a lot has changed. Yext is bringing sales and CS back into the office 5 days a week.

Don't make big decisions in a vacuum. Consult with the people who engage with clients every single day. Ask them what is important to clients and if major changes will impact the partnership. Had there been more collaboration with the people at the top with the people at the bottom, leadership would have known ahead of time that changing the entire support model would have major negative implications and cause churn.

HR needs to look out for female staff in NYC

Yext used to be a great company with a strong leadership team, strong female leaders and a very strong policy against inappropriate behaviour. HR looked out for the young women in the company.
|
No more. There is a male leader who hasn't been fired after multiple sexual harassment reports and he continues to work with women and no amount of issues seems to remove this man. There are young women being harassed and even let go based on Yext protecting this individual.

Not ideal for diverse employees
|
|
- work from home (they are actually returning to the office soon)
- informal work settings
|
- lack of diversity in non-technical roles & honestly wouldn't really recommend black people to come here
Terrible work-life balance. Grind culture is big here
- hard work environment for those who are introverted since being extroverted and having your work visible is appreciated more
- tons of changes within higher ups which makes the company feel unstable
- constant lay-offs
- lower compensation in comparison to other similar size tech companies
