The entire company is a pseudo-ponzi sceme where management keep getting amazing benefits/raises/bonuses while everyone else gets squeezed.
Nearing retirement? You're done.
Pregnant? That position just "happened" to get abolished on your due date.
Minority? You'll get no raises due to "poor earnings"
Short staffed? Don't worry, keep working. We'll get more help (they wont)
Zero room for advancement. Financial practices that would make auditors' eyebrows fly off their faces.
When morale is low, you'll get a word salad feel-good motivational speech via zoom from the CEO (he doesn't like being around the poors). Same with management: word salad.

Your corporate culture is terrible. It's not a bad "business environment": you're simply bankrolling your own lives with money that should be going back into the business and into SALARIES. We can all see the inevitable "bankruptcy" and sale to an Italian-owned private fund (who just "happens" to be someone you know, and will benefit from).

Awful management and work culture

-Good commissions during holidays. Cannot think of anything else besides that.
|
-Their company does not invest in proper training program or coaching, but they will expect a flawless track record. One small mistake and they will secretly note it down to build a case against you.
-Birks does not care about employees' personal development. It shows because they have a high turnover rate of employees at MULTIPLE locations.
-Workplace culture that promotes favouritism.
-Awful store and upper management. They micromanage and only acknowledge and lash out on employee when they make a small mistake. You won't be recognized for your good work and client service.
-Working here feels like you're at a complains desk. Reason #1: Cheaply made Birks collection jewelry. Especially their earring backings. I've received multiple complaints from clients and even noticed myself that their butterfly backings break like nothing. I've worked at other jewelry stores and I've never seen such bad quality earring backings. Doesn't help that 90% of clients walk in asking replacement for their earring butterflies.
Reason #2: Very slow repair service due to short staffing at the jewelry workshops, which would inevitably make clients mad and lash out at sales associates. Their system is also extremely outdated and there's always tech issues, which leads to frustrating back-and-forth communication with bench jewellers. This problem created unnecessary stress on sales associates over something they cannot control.
-Overall stressful. If you are a jewelry school graduate or an experienced sales associate, you are better off working for other companies or a family-owned jewelry business who care about their clientele and employees.

Invest in your sales associates. They are the front and running line of your company. There's a reason why most companies spend the first year training their employees until they sufficiently understand its products and operations.
You are wasting time and money firing every sales associate, and by extension you are losing clients. Upper management and HR need to be more involved to investigate the reasons why there is such a high turnover rate.
