Management will promise you the moon and then fire you for no valid reason with absolutely no warning. They are cold hearted and don’t blink twice. They do not care about their employees as people, they just do what is convenient for them in that moment.
Leadership is not forward thinking.
Favoritism runs rampant
This is the single worst job I have ever had. It’s a sinking ship that most likely won’t make it through the next 24 months.

I have been working at Virginia National Bank for nearly 3 years. After 20 years of working for larger financial institutions, it is very rewarding to work for a true community bank. Virginia National Bank has an incredible base of knowledgeable and very experienced staff. The work environment is friendly, fun and comfortable. The motto "It's all about people...and always will be" summarizes the culture created for clients, prospective clients and employees.

I have been employed at VNB for a few years and this is a great place to work. The benefits are exceptional with generous leave time and they offer a matching profit sharing plan.
I feel comfortable talking to my supervisor and coworkers if I have any concerns and I know I'll be taken seriously. The bank's CEO and upper management work closely to find the best solutions to keep the bank in line with the competition while making sure all employees are doing their jobs as they should.
The community involvement and support the bank gives is generous and I appreciate the important part the bank plays in the local community. There are sometimes fun events that employees get to attend!

None - After working in several other industries and having many other supervisors, I haven't felt as appreciated for my hard work as I do here.
If you don't want to work hard at your job, you may want to look elsewhere.

Good, competitive benefits packages (plenty of paid time off, solid insurance, great 401k match, partial tuition reimbursement, etc.)
People are friendly and they have a flat organization; you can talk to anyone at any time by knocking on their door. There will always be people in a job that you might not get along with but that's everywhere.
Lots of community involvement and activities, fun work events
Saw some other reviews about bad experiences; the bank over the past few years has become leaner because only people who work hard and produce are kept around. As someone who works diligently, I appreciate that people aren't allowed to "hide" in their profession and collect a paycheck.
High-quality business model, solid foundation, great future.

No significant cons. Took a little long to release their mobile app, though.
The reviews on here made me hesitant before I started working there, but having been there a while and seen it from the inside, it's how a business should be run and I'm pleased with it.

The longer I stayed the worse it became

Loved working with the public and made some great friends.
|
The bank does not invest much in training. The trainer was awesome considering no resources. There's no clear direction. Major bullying issue in certain departments, and the problem caused very low morale. Favoritism is also a huge issue. People are manipulated into taking positions and then never compensated as promised. If it's not on contract don't count on the pay increase. There are high expectations but no training to get you there. No morale and most employees are unhappy. Maybe a good start up job but not good for long term.

Invest in your employees. Employees are humans with rights. Also, if you make a promise you should honor it. Oh and get rid of the CEO. The morale will instantly increase. It IS possible to treat your employees well AND be successful.

Retail Management need to be looked at from CEO and CFO. Constant creation of problems to deflect inability to make all offices operate uniformly.

The worst job I ever had!

The starting salary was good.

This is a small bank with only eight offices, you are told that your voice counts and you will have a large part in the decision making. This could not be further from the truth. The truth is there is no one that wants to hear from you and when you need help with something you have to deal with people who have a bad attitude because everyone is scared of loosing their job. Upper management has no idea what direction they want the bank to head in and there is no lower management support at all. My manager came to my office once in two years. I was given the worst annual review of my life, was toad I was doing nothing right and was then given a 3% salary increase. This is a prime example of the mixed messages you will get when employed at this bank.

Take the time to work with and be a support system to your employees. Fear of loosing your job and constant criticism will only cause employees to feel bad about themselves. Positive support and clear directions will lead to the success of the bank and it's employees.
