Take a look at the job market, re-evaluate based on averages from the BLS. Make positions more appealing with compromise on work from home and be willing to negotiate to stay ahead. With inflation as drastic as it has become it is difficult for some people to keep up.

Used to be good

Not much anymore here at the bank.
|
It has really gone down hill. A ton of great employees have left. Bunch of management has left as well. The Bank has really gone down hill the last 5-6 years. We used to be such a great place to be and work, but not so much anymore. Just not a caring environment any longer to the customer or employee. It’s sad.

Horrendous Place to Work

I'm told that there is a new initiative to send you tone-deaf quotes via email every day, if you're someone who wants to waste time reading useless quotes as you're underpaid for your work you may consider this a pro.

- Pay is abysmal - Perhaps the largest issue is that if you do not fall somewhere that top execs like on the personality test they force upon all employees and prospects you will be immediately denied from any positions you want to grow into. This magical personality test, or, DiSC as it is referred to, may as well be above God himself as far as determining an individual's competency for a position - didn't score a high enough in the "S" category? Guess that means you're completely incapable of doing your job!
- Favoritism - if you don't stumble your way into the top execs' clique, you will go absolutely nowhere in this bank
- There are no opportunities to grow in or out of your position aside from lucking your way into a new job when someone above you inevitably quits - which will happen, I cannot stress this enough, turnover is atrocious.
- You will have zero guidance and feedback on your performance from your direct managers or others; you receive a single, half-hearted yearly review where you find out what your single bonus and raise will be. Your entire incentive bonus and meager % raise is based on factors you will stress over and find out once per year, with no opportunity for a dialogue to discuss said performance, and give your perspective on the review before it is set in stone. - Top level exec of a "community" bank absolutely abhors their employees and the community they are supposed to serve. The way they will look down upon you from their throne is akin to the way you look at a stain on the floor. - The "holier than thou" attitude is not only a CEO issue - it is the entirety of top level management, the way those underneath the highest positions are talked about and treated are frankly horrific, and if everyone were able to hear it, there'd be no employees left in this bank.
- Far too much is placed on the individual - single points of failure are everywhere - if a few key people walked out the bank would collapse as they are unwilling to support those who very clearly need their duties split, or someone put alongside/under them to share the workload.

More advice for the board than management - start asking questions about the turnover, look at the root causes and start making changes, because with a competitor (Kish) coming to the area with vastly better conditions, people at the top, and offerings, along with caring about the community more than this "community" bank (which isn't featured in any prominent Juniata County attractions might I add), JVB is in for a world of hurt when that new Kish branch opens up. Better hope when the bank gets bought out by someone else that everyone gets to keep their jobs in the merger.

Plenty of managers have left over the last few years strictly due to her. However, the Board simply listens to her and is not really interested in true success. Best scenario is the bank is sold and she is taken out of banking.

There are lots of good things about JVB- benefits are really extremely solid, the bank uses good, ethical banking practices, everybody knows each other, true community feel, upper management knows your name, and the list could continue. The level of internal politics is not too bad, but does vary from department to department.

Growth opportunities are extremely limited for most employees. This is partially due perhaps to the low turnover rate at JVB. Favoritism seems to exist when opportunities do come up.
