The most laid back workplace you will find. Its more like daycare for adults, where occasionally work gets done. Every day is an absolute blast!
You don't have to follow requirements on anything. You can code to whatever specification you want, you can ignore whatever business requirements you want. You're completely free to create whatever you want as long as you can somehow explain that it gets the job done.
2+ hour lunch breaks are perfectly cool. I'll say it again, you can take a 2 hour lunch break every day, and no one cares.
You can work from home whenever you want but why would you when you can go play ping pong and drink beer with friends?
Meetings are optional, all of them.
Keg on tap. And thats not just reserved for happy hour, no one bats an eye if you start drinking before noon.
If you're buddies with the CEO, you are set for life. When you can get in tight with him your work day can consist of showing up well after 10am, making a full course breakfast in the break room for your first couple hours, and then getting in a few matches of ping pong or mario kart before finally calling it a day at 3 or 4pm.

Great Idea, Poor Leadership

It's sort of a start-up?! If you want to work for a technology company where sales dictates everything and reactively switches direction, this is the place for you.
|
Tech stack is laughable. Only place I've ever worked where new tech hires reviewed the code base and walked out the same day. Moral amongst employees has been on a downtrend for years. I've never experienced near the level of technical turnover anywhere in my career. Leadership is focussed more on sales than creating impactful technology, drastically limiting the ability to move forward quickly. Nepotism runs rampant, promoting incompetency over ability as long as you play along.

Office has a pretty view of the Flatirons.

Boys club that doesn't show the same value for developers as surrounding areas. Pay is below market rate. It is more like a frat house then an office.
If you weren't part of the original "GlobalTranz" team, you will never get ahead here.

Morally corrupt boys club

Easy work, working from home in bad weather is a plus. Being in Boulder is nice for a technology company

The CEO's idea of hiring people is to hire 3 for the same job and fire 2 resulting in terrible employee moral and results in a large number of layoffs. This then create a much too small of a workforce and remaining employees are working 60 + hours a week, which is required if you want to keep your job. No work life ballance to speak of. It's very much a boys club and they look down on women in the work place It's a very sexist culture with no HR department to speak of. 10-4 takes the 'employement at will' clause very literally and will fire people for no reason. They're also very secretive and has a huge communication issue that this company has had from day 1.

This Place is not what it seems

I was setup with good, up to date hardware and tools to work with. If you are a junior person, there are probably worse places to get started in the business, but if you are young and have a degree from a prestigious university, look elsewhere.
|
Management promises things (like options, etc.) to folks as an excuse for underpaying you with no intention of ever giving them to you. If it seems like they like you don't believe it. As soon as you are no longer useful to them or you become too expensive.... see ya.

The team here at 10-4 has hit it's stride with cultivating the right people and positioning itself in the industry. I've seen a lot of deserving people get the recognition they've earned and given more freedom to continue to make positive impacts on the company as a whole. It's been a hard fought path to get where they are now and seeing that hard work paying off across the entire organization is a relief to take part in. As the company continues to mature their will be more bumps along the road but it's in the best place it's ever been with a solid product, open minded leadership, and a true sense of family within the group.

The stress points for 10-4, and any small business for that matter, is finding a balance around resources, the right customers, and maturing some of the organic approaches that can benefit from a repeatable process. It's never fully avoidable but taking some time to always keep an eye on the complete impact of a commitment can save a lot of time and money in the long run.

Making Great Strides Forward

2016 has brought tremendous positive change at 10-4. Most of the negativity that was present has been replaced with new positive attitudes. The management team has added a new VP of Development and Engineering and a new COO/CFO. 10-4 is a much more professional and positive place to work. Many new changes. And the future looks very bright. Glad to be part of this team! 10-4 recently completed its spinoff from the parent company and is well funded now.

Like most start-ups, the company has pivoted in response to valuable market feedback. Also, there has been employee turnover. Communication was not good but has improved dramatically. Recent management adds are making many changes but these were needed.
