Scammers on all aspects
Because the companies disorganization and lack of training you learn how to figure things out on your own and get Zero credit for your hard work.
Zero training, false promises, very very low pay, money hungry owner that has no regard to Labor Laws.
If you complain about wages or working circumstances, the owner is quick to put you down and threaten to fire you.
You will be kept a “Contractor” until the day you ask for employment benefits, then you are fired(again this two-person company has no interest in paying 1 cent more to either you or the government)
Operates under numerous names to help the companies already ruined persona.
Intentional Huge turnover
Do not fall for any promises.......

Bad Experience Overall
Ability to work with high school students.
Working with ACA was a true disappointment. You're not really paid well and you don't have the support from the administration. They wanted the courses to be interactive and fun, but did not get an AC- eady room and instead handed me a crappy projector that took forever to set up.
Because the class isn't graded, students aren't engaged and still manage to complain. The admin would constantly side with them when they said, "This class isn't interactive enough for me" even though I had set up a series of activities. When I went over my lesson plan with the admin, my voice wasn't heard.
On top of that, you're only compensated for the time you're teaching. You're not getting paid for the time you spend lesson planning. This was a true disappointment because I put in a lot of hours where I did not receive compensation.
If you have a choice, don't work for ACA.

Good Summer Job

Spend a month in the city of your program location with housing and meals paid for. You get to participate in fun daily activities with the studednts and go on excursions during the weekends. Perfect job for teachers with their summers off like myself!

Camp Counselor
I worked as a summer camp counselor for ACA. I loved working with the students and the ACA team. Being a counselor is a lot of work but is very rewarding. These programs truly change the students lives.
A lot of hours, but is as expected.

Just a really bad company, stay away
In retrospect, i is hard to look at the time spent with this company as having had any pros.
Staff has minimal training, and there are quick turnovers because nobody has job satisfaction. Feels like the whole thing is barely organized. Parents are sold the program inaccurately and they have unrealistic expectations. Parents and kids are also rude and the business practices encourage it. There are constant problems with the kids, the parents, and the people running this company are horrible. Often someone’s on the phone having a yelling match. If you get caught in the crossfire in any way, the owner talks down to you and starts threatening you. This is truly a terrible company and the job is the stuff of nightmares. Also about contracts and benefits, I heard from many people that promises were made and not respected, it happened to me and all the other people with whom I shared stories.

Stop lying to people about the ‘benefits’ of working here to undercut their pay. Need better pay and better training. There’s no positive leadership like I’ve had in other jobs. Frankly the problem is the owner and his negative culture of work. The only way this company is getting better is firing the owner.

Ideal Job/Employer for Masochist
In hindsight, none whatsoever.
Everything. The kids were absolutely rotten, spoiled, rich brats with no interest in culture and learning. I could write a series of novels about the kids who participate in this program and their equally disrespectful parents. In all honesty, I don't think ACA portrayed their program to the parents/students accurately. Both parents and students had completely different expectations when it came to what it was that the kids would be doing. ACA is TERRIBLY DISORGANIZED. How they've made it 23 years is beyond me. Staff is provided with minimal "training" which amounts to reading through a binder and writing reflections. ACA doesn't send staff over with enough money to last the program and scrambles to figure out how to get more money to their program coordinators. When you do things differently from how the owner wants them done, he belittles you and threatens to fire you. The amount of responsibility, stress and fatigue that comes with working for this company isn't worth the low pay.

Up the pay. Provide proper/legitimate training to ALL employees. Don't hire lazy counselors, they become dead weight. Stop threatening and intimidating staff. Do background checks on staff. Get better at organization, learn about where you're sending the kids/staff (relying on staff's basic knowledge of a city/region is not the way to go about things). Jason, go into another line of work.

Company run by a questionable character
Mindless easy job, if that's what you're into. I was promised a permanent position but later declined after a terrible experience.
CEO shocked me with his less than professional behavior. He sent brow raising text messages no more than 5 hours after having my phone number which was given to him for business purposes only.

Run if you want to be tortured
You get to go to these places for free but you won't be able to enjoy it because you've been driving the entire day.
You drive every single day and very tiring. You work from 7am to 9pm and got paid only anywhere $200 to $300 a week. The boss used fear and intimidation to control their counselor. They always threaten to fire people and that is why the pay is so low so they can replace you any time. When the vehicle had a problem, they would tell you to keep driving and don't care about the safety of you or the students. These short term programs are run by money hungers and unethical people.

A True Review
Free Travel, Food, and Great Friends
Staff who dont realize what a camp job is......... I see all these complaints about time off and having to work til midnight and all I have to say is stop complaining its camp. We literally got to sleep in every other day during the week and had one day off per week. No camp gets that. Some of these people should ask around at other camps. As far being unorganized our trip was during a heat wave and we had to find alternative activities. Part of working at camp is being flexible. Ive went to camp most of my life and that seems to be the norm things change and everyone has to be flexible. I just say ask the director at the top of the day what needs to be done and just do it.
