The people, the duties, the salary, the feeling of purpose. As a veteran, I enjoy the sense of purpose that comes with this job. As an Instructor, I feel supported by management and feel as though my contributions matter and have a direct impact to the accomplishment of the mission. The culture at Advantor is welcoming and very hospitable, they are looking to bring people in and make them a part of the team, providing training, guidance, and support to assist with that transition as much as possible. As with any job, you get what you put in, but here at Advantor, they invest in you as much as you invest in them. Its a real world mission that has real world priorities, some people don't like that. When the company states 100% travel, they are not exaggerating and that number needs to be seen as a serious commitment. If you are not happy with that, you will not be happy here, but the company does their best to communicate this up front. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 486423 Open The absolute only advice I could give would be to add an AED to the First Aid resources available for emergencies. private:advantorsystems https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=486423 Mar 24th, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Advantor Systems Anonymous Employee Orlando, FL Sumery from a long-time employee The company has a GREAT product (for its niche). Advantor has the best customers in the world! The core employees at this company really care about both the company and the customer. They are not there solely to earn a paycheck. See Cons for a full summerof pros and cons. Instead of a CON section. here is an overall sumery of the company that I hope a persepctive emplyee would find helpful. It incoludes bot pros and cons. I have a long history at Advantor. I have been an employee there for a very long time. I have seen the company grow from just a handful of employees to over 200. I have seen the product grow from a general alarm and access control system to one that is specifically tailored to meet USAF requirements. I have also seen their competitor’s products, and when it comes to this narrow niche market, Advantor has it all over their competitors as far as the product is concerned. Unfortunately that adds to the sadness of the Advantor story. The product is REALLY that good (for the market it is designed to fill). I know the struggles and frustrations the AF customer have with the competitors’ products, and the developers here at Advantor have done an amazing job developing a product that meets just about every need the AF has and does it with technology that is leaps and bounds over the direct competitors. Unfortunately the company of this potential has no competent leadership. At least not that the decision making levels. Advantor has have such a potential, and frankly upper management (referred to management from here on) either can’t see it, or refuses to own up to the mistakes they have made in the company’s business model and adjust. If you read over the comments posted by other employees in Glassdoor you will find one common message: Management is incompetent. They are not horrible people, they are horrible managers. A good manager leads. These managers do not lead. They direct, then if it doesn’t work out they blame the department, or even down to the person for it failing. Competent managers reflect and adjust. These managers do neither. I have seen the market change from each base having its own IDS system to a system of enforcing USAF approved systems. In the same way I have seen the maintenance contracts change from a by-base decision to a decision at the AF level with a single IDIQ award. These changes call for a review of policy to see if yesterday’s models still apply today under this changing environment (they don’t). And instead of recognizing that they pressed forward full speed ahead with the old ways and damn the torpedoes. In the end it cost them millions in revenue. Even when the ship was taking on water, did they change the business model and find a way to seriously compete in this new environment? No instead they tried to sue their way back, in a failed attempt to force the government back into the old way of doing business. That was their answer…law suits. Not progressive market changes where they had the potential to not just maintain the 50M+ a year revenue they had but possibly double that. Instead they went broke and had to sell the company. There were some good offers on the table with companies that would have rescued Advantor out of its old no-longer-working ways, but instead the company that ended up buying them is a company that has a history of some very shady and frankly dishonest business practices themselves. So you may think that is the end of the story. Problem fixed. Old folks out, new folks in. Nope. The new company left the old guys in place. Yea, the same guys who put the company in this position in the first place. They just changed the small parent company name under the word ADVANTOR on the front door. That folks is the sum of the changes. So should you work for this company? It depends. It is a good company to work for if you are looking for long term employment (except for the install side which has an enormous turnover). Their philosophy is if it doesn’t work fire everyone and start over. But outside of that department it is a good company to work for. However, go into it knowing this: 1. You will see things that are blatantly obvious that need changed. They will tell you they value your opinion and encourage you to come up with ideas. You will have hours and hours of meetings, reams of paper in binders galore, and PowerPoints coming out of your wazoo with solutions….but in the end nothing will change. Everyone does the head-bob then goes about the their same old marry way it’s always been. If you know that going in, you will be OK. 2. Pay. You are not going to get a salary that competitive with the industry standard. Look at the salary tools on Glassdoor and expect that you will be paid on the lower end of that scale. For some money isn’t everything….if that’s you, you will do fine. That brings me to point 3. 3. Negotiate the best salary you can when hired because getting raises depends on the department you work for. Some departments (a rare few) offer raises periodically (usually once every three to five years). Others never do*. Go into the negotiation period assuming you will work for one of those departments. *The company usually does give a 3- to 3.5% raise each year (generally) for cost of living adjustments. But this isn’t guaranteed and up until the last 5 years or so I did not receive one. 4. Management is going to frustrate you to no end (speaking of upper management here). You will quickly learn that they did not get there because of their management skills. That will become quickly obvious. If you can work around that, you will do fine. 5. If you are thinking about coming on as a manager know you will have no authority. You will have all the risk, but no authority to mitigate the risk. Upper management runs the show. Period. If you are OK with that….Then why are you wanting to be a manager would be my first question. But if you are OK with that….you will do fine….until you are blamed for their failing policies not working then you will be austisized at best but probably get fired. That leads to number 6. 6. Each department is its own kingdom. Internal communication is an issue within just about any company. That is just a business fact of life, but Advantor takes this to a whole new level. The sadly ironic thing is the employees really want these barriers broken down. They REALLY want to work as one company, and they REALLY want to see the customer’s issues resolved quickly and painlessly (for the customer). However, remember that resistance to policy change I spoke about earlier? So much pressure is put on the department managers to make sure their department looks good that when a problem arises it is not an over exaggeration to say 90% of the effort to resolve that issue is internal department finger pointing to make sure they (name department) is not caught holding the blame bag. This is a well-known, and long standing problem that is even acknowledged by upper management (!) but they refuse to change the policy that built those barriers in the first place. We have begged them to, and sent them power points . But to no avail. If you know that going in, you will do….O.K, you are going to be REALLY frustrated….But if you are OK with THAT, you’ll do fine. 7. Advancement is department dependent: This is where I will probably get a 50\50 agree\disagree on this part of the review. There have been some people who started out at the most entry level positions and are now department managers. They deserved it by the way. The ones I am thinking about are competent in what they do and earned the role they are in. But know that is the exception rather than the norm. From what I have seen, advancement in the administrative department seems almost likely. If you do your job and do it at least somewhat competently, you seem to move up in responsibility. It’s a pretty good department to work for actually (you are somewhat sheltered from the incompetence of upper management as well). Sales, design, R&D has almost no hope of advancement. The position you are hired for will be the one you retire in. Logistics – it depends. I have seen some entry level folks move up out of logistics into some other role in another department. But the core people in Logistics have been in their roles as long as the wallpaper. The Installation department moves the furniture a lot. You don’t really get moved up, just moved around. That is for those who can last more than 5 years with the company. Summary: The company has a GREAT product (for its niche). You will be proud of it. Advantor has the best customers in the world! Period! Pay is mediocre, and doesn’t really get better over time. In some departments you will advance as people leave or get fired. In others you will be in your position forever. The Management that actually makes the decision in this company is awful. And I’m not just throwing that word around it is really as bad as the comments other people have made on this site. The core employees at this company really care about both the company and the customer. They are not there solely to earn a paycheck, and that is very refreshing. Many have 10+ years with the company. that speaks volumes to their ability to endure the nonsense that goes on behind the green curtain. Every company has a taste of that nonsense, but Advantor can write the book. Sadly the new company had a golden opportunity to make the biggest and best change the company could have had in 30 years, by replacing the old upper management with new and fresh ideas. The new company failed to do that. I suspect because they wanted the market share, but not the hands-on effort it would take to keep it. After all, why did they think a 40+ year solvent company was on the auction block in the first place? So expect things to continue as they have. And with the same management in place, same model, same policies, Vectrus will eventually see the same results that put Advantor on the auction block in the first place, and to protect their bottom line dump Advantor. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 2.0 3.0 2.0 3.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 486423 Open To Vectrus. Please look over the comments not only from this post but from others. There really needs to be a change in the management. It really is as bad as those comments make it sound. And it’s the top leaders. You know who they are. They tanked a company that was solid for years because they failed to adjust to a changing market. Even when they saw the ship heading for the rocks, they refused to look inward to see what decisions were made that put them on that course (poor and good) and adjust the helm. They were for sale because of poor policies, poor decision making, and poor management. And it appears you are Ok with leaving them in place and expect different results. It was the lowest level seaman that was in the crow’s nest that first warned the captain of the Titanic of the iceberg (albeit too late). Please listen to the comments of the employees of Advantor and do the right thing. We want this company to succeed every bit as much as you do. Let’s hope for different results than the Titanic. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 20.0 Jan 5th, 2021 04:24PM Jan 5th, 2021 04:24PM Advantor Systems
private:advantorsystems https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=486423 Apr 10th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Advantor Systems Contracts Orlando, FL Great Company that cares about its customers and employees - MISSION - you get to help protect the US military, and that means a lot to most of the people who work at Advantor. Added benefit, is that the customers are fantastic. They are loyal, honest, and professional. - CORPORATE CULTURE - family-oriented, professional, open-door management, friendly, committed to its customers, cares for its employees, feels strongly about integrity and "doing the right thing", believes in promoting from within, has an active employee engagement committee that organizes fun and charitable activities for employees. - CO-WORKERS - Advantor has some of the most talented and dedicated employees I have ever worked with. Most of my coworkers regularly go above and beyond because they genuinely care about the customer and our mission. It is really nice working with people who pull their weight, plus some, and will never say, "that's not my job". Everyone is professional; there is no cattiness or drama. - COMPANY SIZE - with less than 200 employees, you are not a number. You can also get things done easier without a lot of "red tape". - BENEFITS - great benefits package and annual salary increases. Even when the economy was down we received annual increases and even when we didn't hit the numbers we wanted to hit, management didn't get raises, but they made sure the employees still did. - STABILITY - the company has been in business for over 45 years. There is not much turnover. A lot of employees stay for a long time. Customers are life-time customers. - LEARNING/GROWTH - this is a learning and growth culture. There is a push for employees to continue education/training in their field. The company pays for all job-related courses and college tuition. If you want to grow, this is a great place for you because they really prefer to promote from within and business is growing year over year. - OFFICE - located in research park near UCF, the office itself is nice, but also there are a lot of stores and restaurants nearby. Also, there is a main toll road that ends right next to the office which makes the commute easier. Not many, but if I had to say something: - VERY BUSY - you are always busy. You will not be able to accomplish everything that you want to get done in a day. You come in, get busy, look up and its time to leave. Every area is hiring and it is a tough market to find people right now, especially ones that have the experience and background needed. - GOVERNMENT - working with the government is rewarding, but can also be frustrating. The government is very slow and does not always make logical choices. Everything is driven by laws and regulation, so things tend to get a lot more complicated than they need to be, vs. working in the commercial industry, as long as the customer is happy, you can pretty much do whatever you want. Also, the laws and regulations are always changing, as well as their interpretations, so you have to stay up on that and be ready to adapt. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 4.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 486423 Open Keep doing what you are doing. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 20.0 Jan 5th, 2021 04:24PM Jan 5th, 2021 04:24PM Advantor Systems
