Initially I was told I'd make this amount and ended up receiving much less. Was told I'd receive my vehicle as soon as I was hired. Didn't receive it until the day I was to be on my own. Was told that if I needed help, to call. All I get is voicemail with no call back. Was told no Saturdays for the first year. Received a Saturday schedule after three months and was told two days in advance. Once you've got past all of that, it's time to get into how disorganized this "company" is. Most of your job is run off a terrible cellphone connected by an equally terrible cell carrier. Running software that constantly crashes. Most techs can fix the appliance in about twenty minutes at max. The next hour is fighting with this terribly coded app. If the customer pays in check, expect to be there for another twenty minutes as the check software is equally garbage. You cannot make calls while moving or really keep up with the phone's GPS app as they have an app that constantly overrides everything once you move. It's to prevent distractions. Honestly it distracts me more and has nearly caused me to crash as it overrides my directions. The appliance database is very outdated. Pixelated tech sheets. Sometimes none at all. We get a lot of warranty calls from big manufacturers yet no tech sheets for these new and fancy machines. Most of the time there won't even be a parts list either. You have to google the model with the word parts at the end then plug that into the parts field. Try doing all that when there's no cell service. I've nearly smashed this phone several times in a day. It is the most stressfull part of my day. I've never been a fan of cellphones. My company van wasn't too bad. It is the one aspect of the job I actually enjoy. However it is not without it's flaws. Their fleet of vans is going on about twelve years now. One tech's van struggles to even start and when it does the engine runs rough, it s a nightmare on the highway as it won't accelerate properly. Thankfully mine is not as bad. I took mine in to the mechanic. This process is a pain. Found a bunch of problems. Wiper arms stripped out, back bumper was bent up and could not open back doors, loaded up with old and useless parts, worn shocks, bad brakes, etc. They tune them to run bad to save gas so don't accelerate in front of something if its going to take more than five seconds to get across. Routing system is a mess. You could drive up to 250 miles a day and only finish three calls and still have four more. They expect you to take care of them all but at the same time they don't want any overtime. This means contacting the customer and rescheduling. That's fun when they have been waiting weeks for you to come and fix it. After that you have to contact the manager to get a code. Usually they'll just tell you to go there anyway. You also have to juggle inventory, shipping, and van maintenance in the allotted time of your route. You are not allowed to do it after the route is done. Management is the worst. I learned to dislike mine pretty fast. There is text after text after text about how worthless you are because you didn't sell enough warranties and other stuff that doesn't benefit the customer. Will constantly ride you about getting completes. Even when it's not always possible. You will also get derided for not getting inventory done. They will count a certain amount of days. This includes weekends, days off (Unscheduled and scheduled), or if your van is at the shop. Once that threshold is reached you get a message. Techs that don't sell are group texted and belittled for not selling. The entire thing feels like all the bad aspects of high school over again. Customers: I don't have too many issues with them. 99 percent of them are super nice and helpful in the diagnosis. Problem is there is not a good call center for them to call if there's a problem. The tech themselves will get called. Sadly there's nothing you can do. There have been a couple of cases where the system (on their stupid phone/server) has dropped a certain customer. If you get that customer, by now they are pretty angry and some have even chased me off the property out of anger, called me names, cursed at me, threatened me. Customers state a lot that the "Call center" is terrible and that they cannot understand who is talking. Some are elderly so that means they may not have WiFI or know how to access it. Some may struggle to use the cell phone to sign off on a job. If this is in a bad cell area (As most of mine are) you have to leave the house and come back which wastes a lot of time and makes us look unprofessional. Their "Services": It seems their prices are intentionally inflated as a means to sell their "Home warranty". This results in a lot of declined estimates and the customer calling somebody else. This spreads through a neighborhood pretty fast. The result: a lot of customers lost. Managers focus way more on selling this garbage rather than fixing the problem we were initially called out there for. I know I wouldn't pay 800 dollars to fix a 400 dollar dishwasher. There's no regard for the techs and no investment in them. There's no raises. Benefits are an expensive joke. 401K is not matching. When slow, they'll make you use your vacation or else you don't get paid. There is no sick days. You lose 70 minutes of pay (start of your day and end). If you don't sell, you get yelled at. If your "score" goes below a certain amount, you get yelled at. Their "training" is just bad. They reward techs that sell stuff. They don't care that you have skills and can fix things. All they want, at the end of the day, is high sales numbers. Work van you can take home. The representative was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient, and they were able to resolve my issue quickly and efficiently. Overall, I am very happy with this company and their product. It's supposed to be a repair company and they will promote you to customer if you don't sell warranties. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Bad moral, bad management. Management is based on education level not experience. You should be able to ask your manager for help. Many of them have never repaired anything. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Traveling to calls and performing repairs.
