Lots of great and not so great leaders have come and gone over the years. One thing is consistent and that is the love of our customers as we have several clients for 10+ yrs and several employees on our staff with 10, 15, 20+ years of experience. We all have leadership roles within our individual jobs to be successful. Management try's to be flexible within reason to listen and try new things to continue to grow the company. Communication has improved within the company greatly. We have now had for the last year company matching 401K which is a positive change. Health, Dental, Vision, Life ins., Long & Short term disability are all offered as a full-time employee. Being a small company we often have to wear many hats and evolve in our jobs, which can be a Pro, but for some people that aren't flexible it can be a Con. A lot of recent positive changes have fostered a great group of people who continue to work hard to move forward and make this place a really incredible place to work. The ability to help patients in the hospital setting is very fulfilling. The unique market allows for some challenging technology puzzles to solve. Recently picked up by a larger conglomerate that has helped drive professionalism and growth. When I first started at this company, there was a lot of management issues and this created a lot of silos within the team. The climate was extremely negative and the company was very reactive in handling problems. Over the past 4 years Allen has made huge strides in improving the company climate by bringing in great leadership who strive to inspire the team. This has created open communication and teamwork across the various departments. The company has moved to a more proactive approach with potential problems. They have striven to improve processes which has helped immensely with the small company expectation of wearing many hats. The culture is one of positivity! And not to mention that the Allen team is absolutely amazing! Such a great crew of people to work with! For some it would be a con that Allen is a lean company that expects employees to wear many hats. Especially since there has been a setback in many process improvements and automation made over the past few years based upon some board level decisions. But this “con” is expected to be temporary. For me, the opportunity to wear many hats has been a great challenge which has allowed me to grow in ways I wouldn’t have in a larger company. 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NO_OPINION 0.0 4.0 4.0 4.0 4.0 3.0 5.0 391826 Open My only advice would be to always find ways to improve efficiencies within teams/jobs as the lean environment can be hard to juggle at times especially when the company sacrifices process automation. The flexible schedules / work from home options really add to the work life balance. As with any start up, employees are not pigeon-holed into one set roles/responsibilities but instead expected to take on a wide range of responsibilities and often have to find their own network of individuals within the company to partner with to get things done. I suspect many people would find this as a Con, but being an enthusiastic professional coming and worked in big and small companies, I find this very liberating. Everyone is moving very fast and trying to capture a big piece of a quickly emerging market. Yes, there are many competing visions of what the company 'should' become. But again, I find this exciting and feel like I too have the ability to influence the direction of the company too This is a great place to work for those who are confident in their ideas and willing to fight for what they believe is the right way to do things. This is not the company for those who would rather come to work every day knowing exactly what you are expected to do and slowly work their way up the corporate ladder. If you are ready to learn and put in efforts this company will definitely give you the platform. Senior Managers and managers are talented and are helping if you want to learn and try different things. I have worked on many important stuff here and have been always appreciated for my work. I can say in the past couple of years the company has improved and its growing. Again this is not the place where you would like to stick to one thing and do that it’s a place for passionate people who actually want to make a difference. What is particularly satisfying is working year after year with so many forward-thinking customers who have been our partners and continue to express their faith in us by renewing their contracts term after term. We have many customers who have been healthcare’s early technology adopters, allowing us to deploy the healthcare industry’s first interactive television system and now, over three decades later are deploying we are our Smart TV System E3 for these same customers. No company can serve healthcare without dedicated and technology-savvy staff and Allen has always had exceptional staff working to develop the next great patient app, supporting existing platforms, helping customers deploy and always holding to the standard that the “customer is the most important person at Allen”. Kudos to the staff at Allen for they are the reason we have such close and long term relationships with our customers. At times I have seen upper management express frustration with some staff who have not performed their duties up to standards that would best serve our customers. I have read with dismay some of the posts in Glassdoor by some of these employees after they have moved on. I see the other comments here, but my personal perspective is that the personnel changes that have been made within the company have only made it stronger. The management team leading the various divisions is exceptional both in technology and in health care experience. Clients love them. And the E3 product suite is right on target for what hospitals are seeking to improve their outcomes. It's very exciting to be a part of executing a vision that I feel really does make a difference in people's lives and their health. I also like that the company has a long history in what is a very challenging industry, health care, but it functions with a culture and nimbleness of a start up. Not really a con, but will say that this is not a place for someone who wants all the infrastructure of a large enterprise organization. If you are looking for a big-company environment with lots of team members to delegate your work to, this is probably not a good fit for you. It is a very lean operation, which is part of what's made it so competitive and successful in the market. Really not too much to add here Friday breakfasts, snacks, coffee, and the occasional on-site lunch brought in were nice. Read the other reviews - it's all true. No bonus plan No equity plan No profit sharing plan No telecommuting plan No plan of any kind, in general Management by intimidation. If you weren't a favorite of upper management, you weren't regarded at all. Nepotism runs strong here. CEO has the situational maturity of a typical juvenile teenager. Worst experience of my career. Corporate culture of management through bullying, including name calling by a CEO who throws things (briefcase) and slams doors to be certain that all employees fear him. No realistic plan for growing the company or improving the product mix. Most ideas are knee-jerk reactions to competitors offerings instead of well thought out progressive improvements. Employees talk behind management's backs and try to stay below the radar because there is never rhyme or reason to outbursts from management. Stress levels are through the roof and confusion reigns supreme. Thinks that changing the product name will somehow improve it. Founder of the company lives in his own little world where everything is going fine. Refusal to honor contracts if the client is not one of the "magic" ones.
