You can learn and play with many pieces of the latest technology. There is zero leadership at the highest levels. The CEO has almost no people skills, doesn't engage his employees to see how they are doing and will listen to his failed management hierarchy over any other employee. They make career path promises they do not keep and then they expect you to work all hours to keep their clients happy instead of hiring more technicians. The pay is decent and the location is good. I believe that the morale and strength of a company starts from the CEO and works its way down. The CEO sits in his office the majority of the day and it is very rare to see him crack a smile. It would be a warm and welcoming gesture if he took a few minutes each day to walk around the office just to say "good morning." Or maybe spring a few dollars every now and then and treat your employees to lunch. Small things like that really make a difference. This is a great place to gain experience, learn new skills and get technical certifications. As others have said, move on, don’t stay here forever. The company is just too small to promote and they don't have career paths. They make promises annually that they are unable to deliver on (if you work on A this year, you will get promoted to B). To them, promoting someone is adding Sr. to their title with no compensation increase. I've been a victim of this for two years now. There have been a few instances where my mid-year was skipped over. I almost missed my end of year bonus when it showed up in my bank account this past December. It was such a small amount and no one even mentioned it to me. The 401k match is a joke. You work on small teams and this allows you to really get to know your colleagues very well, this can be good/bad, in my experience, my co-workers have been great, management needs some serious training. -1.0 NEGATIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 5.0 2.0 5.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 262832 Open My advice to Sr. management? Train your managers. Managers shouldn't be crying in the office after they terminate an employee, they also shouldn't be "friends" with all their direct reports. Taking your employees to lunch every once in a while is nice, but getting involved in our personal lives is a bit much. It's unprofessional. Inviting employees to your home is odd. It's also discriminatory when you invite some, but not all are welcome. If you don't take confidentiality seriously, employees will no longer come to you. Also, where is my review? Variety of projects and clients keep everyone engaged and the work interesting. Organizational process can be fairly too relaxed, so some have to be built from scratch as needed. The web side of the house does great work. The gentleman who runs the managed services side of the organization has the management skills of a common house plant. There are techs that work 20 hours a week and get paid full time, and techs that work 50 hours a week and get paid essentially the same. Big morale problem. When he's not sneaking down the back stairs to leave early, he works from Starbucks. Nice job if you can get it. I don't know how he has time to do all that he does. I appreciated that as long as I was getting my work done, Adam didn't really care about what else I was doing. He was also a great mentor and coached me through some client issues that we were having instead of just taking the reigns and fixing it for me which I really appreciated. The office is modern and has open cubicle areas for some of the workers but most are off-site or in offices. The size of the company being small means you get to really know the awesome people who work there. Doesn't pay as much as other companies. Cuts costs by outsourcing some work to contractors that require lots of QA and missed deadlines.
