Product promised a key feature that would’ve opened up a massive segment of the market and never delivered. Overhired in 2022-2023 and then came the layoffs. Also lots of one-off “performance” firings, when less than 20% of reps made their number last year. Some of the most talented engineers in the world work at Apollo, and nearly every non-manager that I worked with was one of the smartest, kindest people I've ever interacted with in my career. Benefits and pay are great. I struggled a lot during my time at Apollo. I was passed off from manager to manager like a hot potato—literally a new manager every three months. The feedback I received on design projects was laregely sarcastic and non-constructive, leaving me feeling confused, defeated, and unsure of how to proceed most of the time. Team offsites were another sore spot: I have a few disabilities that make things like boating to an island for an overnight camping trip really difficult, and Apollo continuously pushed back on my requests for accommodation. I was unable to attend an offsite due to this, and it actually came up in my annual review as a demerit! Working remote is nice most of the time. Lots is constantly changing since it is a start up. Because everyone is remote, sometimes communication suffers leading to confusion. For a 200+ company we have a very large amount of fortune 500 companies as customers because we solve real business problems. Its been a while where I was at a company where I could actually run my business within a business. No micro-management or endless/pointless internal meetings. Everyone is willing to help. We are a remote first company where myself and my colleagues are extremely driven to write large paychecks which is definitely something you can do here. Cant think of any real cons. It was an unfortunate action to take, but it was taken to ensure the long term health of the company. Most of the negative reviews about Apollo were written after the layoff, but the company still has great people who really care about each other and the work. Rated this 5 stars because I've seen a lot of companies and Apollo is truly one of the best out there. We've had to learn some hard lessons from growing so fast (during a pandemic!) when everyone was remote. I appreciate that the company is doubling-down on creating more connection in the company with events, both in person and remote. There's now more L&D opportunities and chances to share problems with people facing the same challenges you are.
