Product went in wrong direction-nobody is making their number
Some good SEs, lots of independence, interesting solution.
Product promised a key feature that would’ve opened up a massive segment of the market and never delivered. Overhired in 2022-2023 and then came the layoffs. Also lots of one-off “performance” firings, when less than 20% of reps made their number last year. Product isn’t selling because of the MASSIVE (2+ years in many cases) TTV issue.

The people at Apollo are phenomenal. Managers are helpful and help you be good at what you're good at. Also a great product to sell

Great if you're in engineering or sales. Other roles? Not so much.
Some of the most talented engineers in the world work at Apollo, and nearly every non-manager that I worked with was one of the smartest, kindest people I've ever interacted with in my career. Benefits and pay are great.
I struggled a lot during my time at Apollo. I was passed off from manager to manager like a hot potato—literally a new manager every three months. The feedback I received on design projects was laregely sarcastic and non-constructive, leaving me feeling confused, defeated, and unsure of how to proceed most of the time. Team offsites were another sore spot: I have a few disabilities that make things like boating to an island for an overnight camping trip really difficult, and Apollo continuously pushed back on my requests for accommodation. I was unable to attend an offsite due to this, and it actually came up in my annual review as a demerit! This really disappointed me because Apollo does a ton of chest-beating about diversity and inclusion, and I had hoped they would practice what they preached.

Pretty good place to work
Compensation is fair.
Working remote is nice most of the time.
Lots is constantly changing since it is a start up. Because everyone is remote, sometimes communication suffers leading to confusion. Especially because of the ever changing startup mentality this lack of communication is amplified.

Stellar company with typical startup growing pains!
Apollo is a standout workplace! Stellar company culture, rock-solid finances, and leadership that truly values and supports their teams. Apollo's sales outlook is impressive, fueled by a customer obsessed approach. The leadership's knack for driving change sets the stage for continued growth. Apollo is not just a job, it's a dynamic platform for success!
Despite Apollo's strengths, we're grappling with typical startup growing pains. Quick decision-making is a focus as we evolve, and there's an effort to enhance the onboarding experience for new customers, shifting away from an open-source emphasis. Tackling these challenges head-on will be crucial for Apollo's continued growth and dominance in the GraphQL space.

I understand the importance of monitoring our expenses closely, but let's also focus on continuously innovating our products and incorporating features that our customers have expressed interest in. This approach will not only enhance the value of our product and Apollo but also make it easier for our sales team to effectively communicate our value prop to customers.

Working with smart and driven professionals
My colleagues are all extremely smart and driven. For a 200+ company we have a very large amount of fortune 500 companies as customers because we solve real business problems.
Its been a while where I was at a company where I could actually run my business within a business. No micro-management or endless/pointless internal meetings.
Everyone is willing to help.
We are a remote first company where myself and my colleagues are extremely driven to write large paychecks which is definitely something you can do here.
Cant think of any real cons. Ive seen culture being mentioned a few times but I have not come seen any issues.

A mid to late stage startup in good health, compelling vision
I really like working at Apollo. Visionary take on the future and how Apollo and GraphQL fit into it. Highly competent workforce. Strong People and leadership teams.
Awkward teenage years. Growing up from super scrappy startup to process- and excellence-oriented.

Validate Apollo for yourself
- Healthy business
- Execs that actually care
- Transformational technology
- Leaders of the GraphQL category
- Transparent about financials
Yes, the layoff at the end of 2022 was really tough. It was an unfortunate action to take, but it was taken to ensure the long term health of the company. Most of the negative reviews about Apollo were written after the layoff, but the company still has great people who really care about each other and the work.
Rated this 5 stars because I've seen a lot of companies and Apollo is truly one of the best out there.
We've had to learn some hard lessons from growing so fast (during a pandemic!) when everyone was remote. I appreciate that the company is doubling-down on creating more connection in the company with events, both in person and remote. There's now more L&D opportunities and chances to share problems with people facing the same challenges you are.
The con here is that it should have happened sooner, but it's good to see the acknowledgement by leadership, and a shift in approach.

A strong foundation of talented and kind people remains. The potential in the business is exciting, but if we can continue to repair the damage (and loss of trust) from the layoff, we can go back to being the company that had a Glassdoor rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars as recently as Dec 2022.
