Overall Pretty Good
|
The role itself wasn’t difficult and the people there were decent enough to spend days working with. There was an office bar, frequent lunches and unlimited PTO.

Company discriminates on a regular basis
|
All of the work is thrown on a few employees. If you ever dare to stick out your neck and complain, you will either be threatened or fired. They favor minorities and parents and will actually give them less work vs the non parents.
|
Remote work days, free snacks and lunches
|
Leadership removed and not helpful.

If you're into toxic cliquey environments this place is your place
|
I've had a lot of difficult jobs in my lifetime, many of which challenged my grit. But this was an entirely different beast. Myself, along with my co-workers over the course of the year, had such a decline in mental health that we lost ourselves. The toxic work environment was so bad, it carried into our evenings even after we signed off.
The content of the work itself is not great, but what really was a bummer was that the company had this noble mission and they completely lost their way. The company's mission is not withheld in any of the day to day actions. The company is focusing so hard on surviving, they are stepping on small clients and the customer service team to stay afloat. The CS team dealt with the brunt of the layoffs that happened - and the layoffs happened because businesses are leaving Apostrophe in the dust like the plague.
The model doesn't work and the solutions, while I was there, were not solutions at all but rather piling more work on the departments that were the true crux of the company i.e. customer service, provide services, claims etc.
Upper management was so inept. I've never experienced such ineptitude in my life. They ran off of emotion rather than logic. Forget about saying stuff needed to change. They would hold you to an impossible standard while they themselves were terrible at what they did. They would spend a majority of the time beating down on the representatives but provided no opportunities for feedback for them.
High turnover because of terrible high stress burnout. HR department has one person that was hired at the end of 2020 who is the only person that cares about the well-being of the reps.
The place is a disaster. Please, for your own sake. Do not work here.

Shaky start-up with a vision that's more ideal and less realistic..mediocre management
|
I worked with Apostrophe for less than two years. They are doing more right than wrong at this company. I can see where their efforts were paying off, but there is some questionable practice when it comes to what expectations they are setting customers up for. Once an employer signs on with the insurance, their employees and themselves find that providers aren't on board and this causes a lot of friction with the insured.
There is definitely preferential treatment of some staff. The most frustrating part was that they claim to be transparent, but I felt left in the dark with some issues. The hardest part of the job was the complaints from unhappy employees with major medical needs, especially when their complaints seemed justified. If they worked harder at educating the new customers, it would be much smoother.
The culture was usually great and supportive, but there was some cattiness- not a lot, but enough to have an effect on the level of comfort, positivity and support. Management needed work. I feel like they needed more training on how to be assertive, communicative and fair. It seemed like it was OK to act on emotion and they needed more time for all the work they were given. From the day I started to the day I left, the micro managing increased tenfold. I think this is based on it being a start up and policies changed rapidly, which increased the checks and balances. It was a very good intention, and unavoidable, but it also felt like autonomy and independence was peeled away.
The work life balance was good, pay was above average.

Toxic Work Environment
|
It all starts off with a great idea and concept for a startup. Apostrophe is trying to change the face of healthcare. However, you WILL be in an environment with terrible management and leads that have no real direction and do not know how to lead a team properly. They use bullying and intimidating tactics with their employees. All the employees are constantly worked into the ground, stressed, and they’re not heard. Management does not have accountability for their mistreatment and horrible work practices. At this point, this company needs to be investigated by the EEOC. No work/ life balance. This job will consume you and throw you into full depression. Worst work experience I’ve EVER had. You will never feel secure and appreciated at this place of employment. Office politics dominates actual professionalism and management. I wish I would have listened to my gut when I interviewed for this company. Trust me, you will regret it.
