A Good Company With Great People
The product has interesting technical challenges and plenty of room for further innovation. The team—made up of passionate, interesting people who are good at their jobs—is poised and ready to meet those challenges, especially under the current VP of Engineering. Leadership was decisive in ensuring a smooth transition to a remote-first workplace while other companies are still kicking that can down the road.
I was excited to join the company, and I think we're in better shape now than a year ago. As a startup, it's hard to do better than that!
Like any company older than 6 months, we have tech debt we still need to pay down.
The benefits package could be stronger.

The best product culture I've ever experienced
People who genuinely care about each other and the customer. Everyone here enjoys solving problems and moving fast. There is authentic ownership over problem areas and no permission needed. Leadership that cares about creating a great environment and helping everyone do their best work. I feel very fortunate to be here right now.
The product infrastructure needs work, so we spend more time working on that than I'd like (what's new, that's every small company). Our data game is behind - if you'd like to help us change that, please come join us!

Really Amazing Team and Culture
I've never felt like I was surrounded by such a smart group of folks as I do at Appcues. Working here really challenges you to take your own skills to the next level, because most folks working at Appcues are already there. Management is filled with really impressive leaders and good people. The whole team gets together on a regular basis to showcase what various teams have been working on and express gratitude for the hard work that team members have been putting in. The overriding attitude you experience at Appcues is one of positivity and appreciation. Appcues has been a really fun place to work. And if you want to, you'll also be able to grow a great deal in your time here.
Its a startup, so nothing can be taken for granted and you've gotta be ready to roll up your sleeves. You will be challenged.

A uniquely good company—a diamond in the rough
I've been at quite a few companies, large and small. I feel incredibly lucky to have found Appcues, and to be able to work with this team on this product at this stage. It is something special that doesn't come along often in the startup world, or in any company, and I truly mean that. Hopefully it's obvious in the stories here, but it's the real thing.
Why? I think it's two unique things that really make it work.
First. the mission and product is something people can believe in. It's valuable, useful, and positive: helping people have a better experience with the software they use. It's a clear problem that gets me excited to come to work in the morning to help solve, and the way we stay aligned around helping customers is highly motivating. That and the product itself is just plain fun to work on—it's a good tool that our customers like using and it seems to be headed in a great direction, both technologically and product-roadmap wise.
Second, I really think that mission and the founders have attracted a uniquely caring, kind, good team of people I'm proud to work with every day. They foster a positive, trusting, motivated attitude that is infectious. We seem to believe in each other and help each other and genuinely enjoy the journey. This is rare and special, and we all seem to appreciate that.
The founders are great too—they're the foundation for both the mission and the team, and they keep us all focused with our priorities and our heads on straight. The whole leadership team they've assembled is also a big plus—generally people who have "seen our future" and tend to get ahead of needs before they're problems and guide us toward good habits. This has had great results.
The culture feels real: it's not based on superficial things like ping pong tables and beer kegs, but on the real stuff, like how we treat each other, how we stay close to customers, and the transparency that really happens frequently. It's very good, and I hope we can keep that solid as we grow.
I've learned so much from everyone here already, and grown the most I ever have in my career so far. I'm lucky for it, and hope I can continue for years to come.
We're still learning how to prioritize and stay focused (especially on the product side), but I'm confident we're headed the right direction. Like any growing company, we develop communication breakdowns and silos, but I've never seen a company respond to them quicker or more positively. We also tend toward non-standard hours, mainly I think because people do care and feel ownership, so it's difficult to make clean breaks some days—but this is something the company feels self-aware about and I think works overall. In general, very few negatives—just side-effects of growth and a good mission you actually care about. The good part is I think we're in about the top 5% of companies in terms of our ability to handle any given problems now or in the future, given our team and leadership.

Trust your gut. Your instincts on hiring and culture have been good, so keep that up. Stay humble—it's one of the best and most unique parts of the culture. And keep learning as we grow. Finally—we're gonna grow a lot, but we can do it, and you can do it. Believe in yourselves.

Best Job I could Ask for
I've been at Appcues for two years now, and each day I wake up very thankful to work for Appcues -- I mean it. Here's why:
-Flexible Schedule: You make your own hours and take the vacation you want/need. The bottom line is get your job done, and get your job done efficiently.
-Strong Leadership & Team: From the top down, colleagues at Appcues truly care about one another. If someone in your family is sick, has passed, or if you're sick, the team has your back no-matter what. This comes from leadership who places values on 'enjoying the journey' and being kind to your colleagues. The leadership is also very thoughtful and transparent.
-Smart Team: You never want to feel like you're the smartest person in the room. If you are, how can you learn? The team at Appcues is so smart, agile, and forward thinking which keeps the job fun.
-Enjoy the Journey: As any start-up, the hours can be long. Appcues likes to keep the motto: work hard, play hard. We want to enjoy this awesome journey we're on.
-Trust: Your colleagues trust you to get your job done and do it the way you think is best. You have a lot of autonomy.
-Competitive Salaries: Okay, all of the above is great but the bottom line is also the $. The salary is very competitive and in addition to the above pros, Appcues is a no-brainer.
Long hours: Appcues is not a corporate 9-5 job. Some days can be 9-7 and some can be 11-4. As a start up, there's a lot to do. That's super exciting and means you're never bored, but if you're not ready and willing to take on the workload, it could feel overwhelming.
Change: As a start up, we're constantly changing and super agile. If you don't like change and need a strict playbook, this isn't the place for you.

Incredible company. I got very lucky to find this place.
- Massively collaborative/caring team. Everyone wants to succeed and make sure others do.
- Brilliant founders with HUGE, helpful networks.
- entire company values transparency. Everything is published/public for employees
- Really cool, bleeding edge product written on a fantastic tech stack.
- Growth, growth, growth. Product-market fit is palpable.
- When you fail, the team will help you figure it out. Appcues is full of self-starters and people comfortable with trying new things that may not always work.
I've had to make my personal life more interesting to keep up with how much I love this place. It's been showing up in my dreams. Complex, interesting problems to solve, lots of growth, and wonderful people to work with.

Small team means sometimes things get hard when you've gotta do more with less, but really it's not bad. The work/life balance is definitely healthy
