Not precisely a con, but Apptegy is a fast-paced environment. To grow as an engineer, you this. However, it's not always the most comfortable.

Apptegy is a fairly diverse company, with different people from all kinds of walks of life. One of the greatest thing about it, though, is the leadership. The CEO of the company GENUINELY cares about his employees. Company culture is a top priority, and the benefits are wildly generous (i.e.unlimited PTO, full health coverage, mental health reimbursement, travel stipend, etc.).
Another really cool thing is with Apptegy being such a new company, you really have an opportunity to make an evident impact in how we do things. Jeston is always pretty open for new ideas and quick chats, even if he doesn't go for it in the end.
All in all, Apptegy has given me some really high standards for any different jobs I take in the future, and I am highly grateful for my time with them.

Like all things in life, Apptegy is not perfect.
We do things a little differently in the sales world, which may not always be appealing to someone used to regular commission. Also, "moving up" in the company can be a bit tricky; there simply aren't always positions to move up to.
This last thing is more personal, though many of my friends/coworkers function similarly to myself in this regard: management is not typically going to pat you on the back and tell you that you're kicking a**, even though you might absolutely be doing so. This isn't really a "con" so much as it is something to be aware of if you find you need that type of encouragement.

Maybe encourage individual staff a little more often. Definitely not a "need", but many people at Apptegy are overachievers, and it's nice to be told that you're doing well, and a true asset to the team. Otherwise, keep being awesome!

This is hands down the best place I've ever worked and it's entirely because of the caliber of people that are brought on - Apptegy works incredibly hard to bring in people that will fit in with their culture of thoughtfulness and high-performance (if not enhance them!), and it isn't the kind of place that lets that fall off the wagon after the hiring process. The other thing is that everyone on the team here knows what it's like to be a real-life human, and the understanding, empathetic approach leadership takes with their employees is truly heart-warming.

Honestly, it's an unpopular opinion, but I'm not a huge fan of working in downtown Little Rock. And if that's the biggest complaint I have, I don't really have much to say. The only other thing is that sometimes the stress of being a high-performer gets to me - if you aren't interested in pushing yourself to work harder than ever, but also able to mitigate safe work/life boundaries, this can be a challenging company.

Anyone can review Apptegy's social media accounts or website and get a glimpse into the culture of high performance and thoughtfulness. Upon starting at the company, it became clear immediately that this is truly the thread of the company culture. It is not an easy feat to run a rapidly growing start-up while taking those two values into consideration. My time here has been one of the best decisions I've made. There are growth opportunities and a deep commitment to employee culture. You will be pushed to perform at a level you probably have not been asked to perform at before, however, you will be supported in doing so. Transparency and honesty are valued. I would strongly recommend anyone that is willing to work hard and surprise yourself with what you're able to accomplish consider applying for a position here.

I have truly enjoyed working at Apptegy. I've only seen it get better with time and it's hard to imagine it being different in the future. Our CEO and the people team work really hard to make it a wonderful place to work for us all and it shows every day.
Benefits are great and include health, dental, vision, unlimited paid vacation (within reason), catered breakfast/lunch on certain days of the week, a great discount at a local gym they partnered with, and an awesome yearly travel stipend to encourage time off. There are tons of company events that are always a lot of fun (even the mandatory staff meetings). The people that work here are amazing and have become some of my best friends over the years.
In my department, there is a tremendous amount of flexibility allowed in our schedule just as long as there is progress being made on the work assigned. Our stack is always evolving (it's changed dramatically since I first started) but mostly consists of ruby, go, rails, roda, vueJS, postgres, kubernetes, and docker. There are always opportunities to grow your skill set and explore new technologies. I feel I can safely say that I've grown significantly as a developer since starting here.

For me the biggest con is specific to the engineering department's lack of structure within our roles as software engineers. Sometimes I don't know where my opinion matters or where it's required given my experience. The junior/mid-level/senior roles haven't been defined or at least haven't been made clear. I've also been told this is a work in progress too.
Most of the time the deadlines that are set can be a bit unrealistic, however no one is punished if they aren't met. I think it is mainly to keep us all moving as fast as possible all the time.
Overall the pro's definitely outway the cons in my opinion.
