The problems are big, but the people who can solve them work here. The skills I gained from this job and the mindset have been extremely fruitful for my career. This is a start up. It is messy... PERIOD. There are parts of the job/company/team/system that are not figured out. If you do not like to fill gaps then you should look at another company. Autonomy is learned here and you have to lead yourself at times. This company loses massive customers every year. This leads to unattainable sales goals and stress for a very reduced team after multiple layoffs the past year. Many others have left. The morale is horrible for over a year. It is obvious the company is financially struggling to even stay up. They tried to cut medical benefits to save $$ and have let top employees walk away. The product is crap and development is a joke. It is practically impossible to make money. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 2.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 818827 Open Bringing back the old CEO was the death of Apto. He lacks leadership skills, has a huge ego and internal management does not exist. No one respects this. And his history of using his company as his personal Tinder makes it worse. So much gossip. So many questions with on how promotions happen. The investors should realize the liability that could happen. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 2.0 Jan 7th, 2021 09:15AM Jan 7th, 2021 09:15AM Apto Technology Software & Computer Services
private:apto https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=818827 May 7th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Apto Denver, CO Hard Work, Huge Opportunity Working at Apto has been one of the most challenging, yet most rewarding experiences of my career. In reading previous reviews, I'm shocked at how many people joined a young startup, were met with challenges, and decided that those challenges suggested that 'the ship is sinking'. The ship isn't sinking, folks - we just happen to be attempting to do something that has never been done before. We sell technology to an industry that largely doesn't think they need it yet. It's a tough problem to solve, and no one has done it well yet. However, that's where the cool opportunity comes in. Apto is moving in the right direction and remains poised to be a leader in commercial real estate tech. Our product and engineering team is firing with new leadership, our customer retention is up, and we consistently hit our sales targets. We let some folks go recently in a cost cutting effort that has made us leaner, meaner, and more efficient. To those considering joining Apto, be prepared to roll your sleeves up, ditch any 'it's about me' mentality that you may have, and solve hard problems. If that sounds like you - working at Apto is a blast. If you're someone who expects anything to be handed to you (career progression, easy targets, answers, etc.), this is not the gig for you. Apto provides an ideal environment for someone who wants to learn how to develop and apply an entrepreneurial and objective mindset in the face of challenge. The thing about hard things....is that they're hard. -Career progression is blurry. You've gotta pave your own path and in some cases, design your own promotion. -We're approaching a strategic 'event' which will most likely be a positive thing for the business, but there's some uncertainty about what our direction/product might look like a year from today vs. now. Not sure if that's a 'con' but something to be considered. -We're lean, and we lack some process. You've gotta be interested in wearing multiple hats and OK with operating without perfect process. quickly. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NO_OPINION 7.0 4.0 5.0 4.0 3.0 4.0 3.0 818827 Open Stay transparent. private:apto https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=818827 Apr 30th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Apto Employee Denver, CO Best. Layoffs. Ever. Take it from me, someone who's been here a while. Things are fine, despite the negative reviews. Yeah, the pie might be shrinking, but that just means I've got more real estate (heh) to claim. To all those who just lost their jobs: you deserved this. Apto was too big. Now we're really moving towards what Goldilocks would call "just right." We have a ways to go to profitability, but we're continuing to reduce costs every week with all the follow-on quitters who weren't cool enough to get laid off like the rest of them. Good riddance. As we continue to fire bad customers, we don't need as many customer support reps anyway. Plus, our new engineering team in St. Petersburg is way better than the old one. They do what they're told, unlike the old divas who had the nerve to question the company strategy. You say insubordination, we say out-of-the-organization. That's just how things should be, because we're all adults here. Besides, constant fear and anxiety really shows who's up to the task. It's like no one understands that these things are NORMAL in a startup. The constant fear and anxiety (which should be a force for good) seems to make everyone into a paranoid weirdo. At lunch, people are always gossiping about "who's going to quit next" when they should be framing it like "who do we need to eliminate next?" It's sad how many people are losing focus on this exciting journey to burn rate zero. private:apto https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=818827 Apr 15th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Apto Denver, CO The embodiment of failure. The best people hired have been leaving for well over a year. Thankfully if you worked here in that time, you have a great network that wants to help you escape this sinking ship. Picture a company that can’t get funding, can’t secure a line of credit, and then lays off 20% of its workforce after changing goals on them every quarter for “underperforming.” That same organization then stops hiring but cares enough to write positive reviews here. Obvious damage control. Got that image? That’s Apto. The CEO is someone you'd spend a career working for. I'm on the Sales team. The quotas are attainable and motivating. You are given the autonomy to create your own day without someone breathing down your neck or micro-managing you. The product is capable and it is solving a very important problem for the customer which makes it better to sell. The sales cycle is also relatively quick, which is nice. The last 12 months, engineering and product have underperformed. There has been a change in personnel, and we are now releasing new features and versions that are field tested with customers. Also, it's a startup, so you need to be comfortable with uncertainty. This has the hidden benefit of providing a lot of opportunity for the right person who wants to apply themself. 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 1.0 APPROVE 2.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 3.0 5.0 818827 Open Continue being honest and direct with your employees. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 2.0 Jan 7th, 2021 09:15AM Jan 7th, 2021 09:15AM Apto Technology Software & Computer Services

I have learned a great deal not only in my own function, but also working with other departments through various projects and day to day interactions. It is an extremely collaborative culture, and the executive team's transparency allows everyone in the company to understand how they are directly impacting the company's growth and share in its successes. Start-up growing pains - product shifts can be frustrating, but also good learning experiences about what didn't work and has helped guide where our product is now. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 6.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 5.0 818827 Open Keep fostering a transparent and collaborative culture. As you can gather from recent reviews, a handful of employees were let go for good reason. As an adult in the working world, you must be held accountable and get the job you were hired to get done. Unfortunately, those things were not happening. I am excited in the direction the company is going. Product finally is moving forward in a productive way and we have a clear path of where we are going. - I enjoy everyone I work with and we have a work hard play hard mentality. Get the job done and you will be rewarded with team outings, happy hours and company events. - Because we are a startup, your suggestions, questions and concerns are listened to. You do have a say and can have an opinion about whats working and whats not. - Holding people account and setting appropriate metrics has been a struggle. I think this is getting better and starting to be addressed but can be frustrating at times. - This is a true start up. Be ready for constant change. At this point there are no pros to working at Apto. This is a completely dysfunctional organization. Nepotism, lack of vision, zero-sum game mentality, inability to grow its employees, ambiguous expectations, inability to manage expectations internally, uncontrollable churn, mushroom management, etc. If it is not obvious in the several, recent negative reviews, just look at the most recent positive reviews and the kinds of values Apto has instilled in the employees who remain: > “Recently moved on from people who weren't holding up their end of the bargain” > “Continue to get rid of the people who seek to keep their work simple” > “Recently weeded out some dead weight within the company” Do not come here and waste any months or years of your career. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 14.0 1.0 0.0 1.0 1.0 0.0 1.0 818827 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Jan 7th, 2021 09:15AM Jan 7th, 2021 09:15AM Apto Technology Software & Computer Services
private:apto https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=818827 Apr 11th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Apto Denver, CO Too many factions. Poor expectations. Had you asked me a year ago if I would recommend Apto the answer would have probably been a resounding "yes". Today you couldn't pay me an above market salary to work there. I would say that Apto is about to repeat history again after churning through multiple engineering/sales/support departments. This will probably be the fourth iteration. Oh. As for pros I guess you get free lunch on Weds. As some of the recent reviews go one can surmise that there were multiple pockets of opinions in the company. Most people optimized for what individually made them successful versus where the company had to actually put investment in. I think most departments didn't truly understand the limitations of the original product that was built (except maybe CS to a degree). This is where the customer pains came in. Too many unique snowflakes in customers creates the inability to iterate on a product because one "simple" change will affect all workflows in the product for other customers. You can fork the product for that customer but then when they want to get updated you create a massive headache for other departments to work around customizations for that customer. There was quite a bit of blame that went around for this which is pretty funny because none of the original people who built any of it were at the company at this point anyway. What Apto needs to do is grow up and take ownership of the problem. Stop pitting departments against each other and work together on _one true vision_ for the product. Expectations of what the product does vs what it should do shifted quite a bit as well. Especially for specific segments of the market. A feature would get built for one segment of customers, but it wouldn't meet all the needs of other segments of customers after release. This is normal in product development as you continue to build out a robust platform for the different segments. You also learn by continuing to ship and fix as customers discover new patterns for using the feature. What ends up happening internally, however, is that the feature is seen as a complete failure because segment "X" of customers aren't supported for this feature. This completely demotivates and demoralizes teams. It also created a crippling effect on the team to deliver new features as the team never knew what expectations to set when building the next thing. It really is a ripe market and I am sure one of Apto's many competitors will actually dominate here. Apto itself though? Doubtful. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 14.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 3.0 3.0 2.0 818827 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Jan 7th, 2021 09:15AM Jan 7th, 2021 09:15AM Apto Technology Software & Computer Services
