The pay was underwhelming, and it didn't seem like upper management was working hard to make people want to be at work. Very old fashion feel of "this is how it's always been done."
My direct team was great. My supervisor really worked hard to get as much as he could for his team. He gave me challenging work that I learned a lot from.

Good people, but slow-paced environment
|
I enjoyed my co-workers and the work I did at ARGO. However, I believe that the amount of interns (2 others) was unnecessary for my department.
Many times, I had to find stuff to do or research new skills pertaining to the position. Interns were split into different teams in the Corporate Communications department, limiting what they could work on.
I suggest that only one intern be allowed per internship period, as it doesn't seem that the workload is as heavy as it should be. I feel as though I didn't get to learn as much as I should have.

It was a long time ago
|
When I was there, the base product was poorly written. There were many issues with the product and no one seemed to be really working at solving the base issues. The base product was written in a proprietary language that most people did not like. Therefore, there were many decisions being made in the javascript rather than in the back-end, where decisions should be made.

We got off at 5:00 and did not have to take home a laptop.

System was difficult to work on.

Excellent place to work
|
Business casual and management and employees are pleasant to work with. The receptionist position is not high stress. I worked the morning shift and arrived a little early each day to ensure the executive conference rooms and reception area were clean and neat. Responsible for ordering and receiving lunches for business meetings and making sure proper authorization is provided. Created business expense reports for one executive.

You can get some good experience and examples of how not to run a software company. Slow paced then random deadlines that are not known to developers.

Eye opening smaller company experience

Very little structure considering it's a 30+ year old company. No attention seems to have ever been paid to efficiency, process, or workflow. This is done under the guise of creativity, but the reality is an organization that is neither creative nor well run. It is an environment in which it is not possible to attain any sense of achievement or progress.

Good place to start out

The work environment was great. They have a beautiful office with a gym on the first floor. The cubicles are the best of any company I have worked for to date.
The only thing that holds ARGO back is the lack of career growth.
