Super talented, and very creative people who deserve a better working environment. Management/Leadership was a nightmare. Expect to be overworked (immensely) and underpaid (immensely). I have worked for a few event companies - good and bad-and Art of the Event was another bad one. The work they do is great, thanks to the crew and event planners however the management is pretty much the worst I've seen in the industry. Vacations and sick days are 1000% frowned upon, there is zero trust in the event producers even though without them the company would go under in a matter of days. Clients do not like working with the president directly and that is known, which is why she can't help but micromanage everything. Raises don't exist. During my time there I saw two different event producers be let go after having the "audacity" to ask for more money - after working 50+ hours a week. There is always a sense of high tension, not due to the nature of the job but due to the two owners. The entire operation is absolute chaos and if it weren't for their employees nothing would be accomplished. Also, the owner does make people drive her around and if you leave a second before 5:30 pm (pre covid) you were scolded. Please take the advice of almost every review for this company and do NOT work here. Every positive review is a fraud. CEO forced current employees to write and post them. - CEO would openly talk smack about employees calling out, and would go through their computers and emails, as she doesn't trust anyone to work from home. - They don't reimburse gas (illegal) and complain when they have to reimburse our parking in the city. News flash - parking is expensive in Boston, especially when you're rushing around to events. CEO would also force us to chauffeur her around as she refused to take her car anywhere. Very "devil wears prada" esque... - Both owners have full blown temper tantrums over the smallest inconveniences. They cry, yell and put employees down instead of problem solving. I watched the CEO make several employees cry by badgering and/ or insulting them to their breaking points, including myself. Absolutely appalling. - CEO would throw legitimate fits about employees calling out, yet she works sporadic and random hours or wouldn't show up at all. As an owner, you have that luxury to make your own hours. However, if you want to be "hands-off," you can't micromanage people 24/7. If you want to micromanage us, you have to BE IN THE OFFICE to understand what's been happening. - Everyone is underpaid and overworked. All the owners do is complain about money, so they don't give anyone raises, yet make ridiculous and obvious poor monetary decisions. They don't buy their supplies in bulk... it is literally a fact that buying ANYTHING in bulk saves you money... - Company would run so smoothly when the owners were on one of their many, many vacations. I think that alone speaks to their incompetence. - Owners do not understand the benefit of not being completely drained or exhausted at work. It is looked down upon to use your vacation or sick time. With all the weekend/ OT work we do, and being in the hospitality industry, you'd think they'd understand the mental and physical benefits of taking Monday off here or there (also, another news flash: 40 hours is 40 hours...). This is the most bizarre and atrocious work environment I've ever experienced. I have no idea how this company stays in business with the amount of corners they cut and illegal affairs that occur. It's truly a shame -- could be a gold mine. The warehouse was a chaotic, disorganized and completely full of nail-ridden junk as well as fire hazard severely lacking in ventilation. Childish name-calling and belittlement was commonplace instead of critical feedback from ownership and management. There are some great and skillful individuals here, sadly they quickly get burnt out, break down, or quit. Additionally, the company itself - what it's capable of and uniqueness of it, is really impressive and cool. A mean and micromanaging president, a team that is burnt out, long days, very little vacation/sick time, and very little comp time even when you work long hours. The owners strive to squeeze every last drop from you while providing as little as possible in return.
