Great hard-working and intelligent students. The university makes an honest attempt to engage in the life of the mind, promote a balanced liberal arts education, promote scholarship among professors, and provide faculty resources for research and further education. Moving towards really exploring civil discourse and an effort to engage all cultures in meaning fun dialogue.
|
The theological background of the university (the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition) can at times creates a reactionary and negative environment - friendly on the surface but at times a political and suspicious culture beneath that. As a result, collegiality and trust suffers. Also, the school is notorious for hiring faculty who went to school there, and thus the culture veers towards insularity as well. It can feel pretty repressive.

Very slow-moving in getting things done, challenging to accomplish certain doable things because of budget constraints and 'old' thinking, people in 'high' places can make it difficult to improve everyday things beneficial to campus culture, some people who have been around a long time don't help move things forward
