private:aspyrmedia https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=30159 Dec 24th, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Aspyr Media QA Tester Austin, TX It's Fine + The people are cool for the most part. + It's a steady job. You do your work, you get paid. + People from the game dev side of things have been really nice and helpful, and are open to talking about their jobs and experiences. + I only stayed as long as I did because of my fellow QA testers and QA leads. These are all great and hardworking people. - There are some people in upper management that obviously don't care about video games, and only chase after the money. - There are people that pretty evidently don't do their jobs, and have met 0 repercussions. - Any attempts at Diversity and Inclusion initiatives have been a joke. - The pay is garbage. - Lukewarm values as a company--reiterating that there's emphasis on making money and playing nice with business partners, but not treating QA testers well. The game devs who were hired this past year have been more personable and kind and friendly than the business/upper management departments who've been here for 10+ years. Talk about taking people for granted. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 0.0 NO_OPINION 0.0 2.0 5.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 3.0 30159 Open Actually help people grow within the company. Give your QA managers and leads resources so they're not carrying the burden of all these new projects without any help. You treat QA testers like they're machines meant to print money for you. So many of you are great at talking to placate people who are willing to believe in your nonsense, yet it took over a year for a QA department wide pay raise to go through. Some QA people have worked there for 6+ years and are stuck at $13/hr. And then every month we sit through an hour long meeting about how soulless ports made the company tons of money, but QA testers don't see any of that--oh, sorry. They see a $600 "bonus" every 6 months. (Spoiler alert: it's not a bonus check if the base wage isn't enough to cover basic living expenses.) Maybe actually have a vision for the company beyond, "make games make money." Because you're wasting the passion and talent of people who believe in you. And maybe actually make the marketing team do something with the company's social media presence beyond riding [big franchise name] hype train. If not, fire them and redistribute their wages to the QA testers who work so hard for you everyday. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Jan 7th, 2021 09:21PM Jan 7th, 2021 09:21PM Aspyr Media Technology Software & Computer Services
private:aspyrmedia https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=30159 Aug 4th, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Aspyr Media Manual QA Tester United States USA A fantastic job at a fantastic company that unfortunately suffers from industry-standard pay. -Terrific CEOs. You’d be hard-pressed to find people who care more about their employees than Michael and Ted. -Very open in terms of advancement. They encourage all of the QAs to branch out in the company. Folks are open to meetings just to simply talk about their roles in the industry. -Great benefits in COVID times. We’ve been taken care of in ways that are unheard of to my knowledge. -Amazing structure. No one is truly “above” anyone. There’s a definite hierarchy, of course. But, there isn’t any pressure when talking to anyone up or down from you in the chain of command. -Very friendly. Everyone works hard, but stays lighthearted. The only true downside to being a QA with Aspyr is that is the same one you’ll find at almost any game studio. The pay is abysmal. Considering how wonderful everything else is, the pay is almost comical in comparison. Not a single member of the QA team is treated poorly. We’re all considered to be invaluable. But, the pay doesn’t reflect that. Instead, it’s a fine example of how the industry needs to change its tune for its testers. It is an ugly blemish on an otherwise flawless image. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 4.0 3.0 5.0 5.0 2.0 4.0 30159 Open You guys are all doing absolutely AMAZING jobs. I couldn’t ask for better bosses. This is the first place I’ve ever worked where I feel like I actually belong where I am. I can see myself staying here for a very long time. Just please, PLEASE reconsider the pay for QA. Software QA gets paid a decent living wage, it’s time the game industry side does too. I would not be at all surprised to see a studio as great as Aspyr being among the first to pioneer towards that change. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 1.0 Jan 7th, 2021 09:21PM Jan 7th, 2021 09:21PM Aspyr Media Technology Software & Computer Services

The people are talented a delight to work with. Stocked snacks and drinks in the break rooms. Generous benefits, competitive pay, and good PTO accrual. It’s hard to think of any serious cons. The break rooms are a little under stocked sometimes, but honestly if that’s the best con I can think of, then there’s really nothing to complain about. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 1.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 30159 Open Keep up the amazing work, and be considerate of the culture even though times of expansion, because it is my favorite thing about the company and I’m sure I’m not alone in that. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 1.0 Jan 7th, 2021 09:21PM Jan 7th, 2021 09:21PM Aspyr Media Technology Software & Computer Services

private:aspyrmedia https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=30159 Jun 21st, 2015 12:00AM Open Open Aspyr Media United States USA Aspyr Media The company is great at keeping it's employees on the payroll (at least within the last 5 years). People are all very friendly. Company owners work hard and care about the well being of their employees. There is little to no upward mobility for most employees. Raises are not given yearly, instead bonuses are given based on company performance. Office location is not centrally located. private:aspyrmedia https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=30159 May 7th, 2015 12:00AM Open Open Aspyr Media United States USA Great Place for Self-Motivated People Company leadership give contributors lots of autonomy which is a great environment for someone who has a lot of ideas and is very self-motivated. The company has a solid foundation and seemingly has been on steady ground for many years, so it's a more stable environment than most gaming companies. Additionally, the owners are very family focused and understand/respect the balance of work/life. Leadership doesn't provide a lot of feedback, so if your career stalls there may not be a lot of direction to help you grow. There is not a formal process for career and salary growth outside of QA. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 3.0 5.0 5.0 30159 Open Keep up the good work! Leadership is fun, motivating, and overall moral is great. This was one of the best companies I've ever worked for. Disconnect in communication between developers and operations.
