Some of the people were crazy smart and kind. There were catered lunches and opportunities to workout with a private trainer after hours. You will be challenged professionally and have an opportunity to work on projects you did not think you were capable of completing.

The CEO knows what to say to sell you on joining the company (especially by bad mouthing the competitors), his ideas and forgoing everything you know to be fundamentally right about your area of expertise.
There will be strong reasons provided to you as to why you should consider a healthy pay cut to join the company, Remember that options are nice to have, but they do not replace your value in the marketplace.
There is an expectation that you should work hard in order to reap your reward at certain milestones. However, in spite of whatever David may have offered, the rewards never come or when they do, they are wildly disproportionate to the expectations that were set in the beginning.
It's not uncommon to come into the office and find one or more people have been let go, with no warning or explanation - to you or to the individuals being let go.
It's not uncommon for you to be asked to work overtime or risk the CEO believing that you either don't care about the company or you are not a hard worker.
You may be pulled aside and asked not to "chat around the water-cooler", presumably because there is an irrational fear by the CEO that you may be gaining influence and turning the company against him.
You'll be told you have great ideas and that the creativity / originality you bring matter; however, they don't. Nearly everything about the AssetAvenue platform is copied from more mature competitors in the space.
Expect that if you are a contributor to an important project, your every decision and opinion will be micromanaged and combed over by the CEO, who is neither the subject-matter expert nor has the time to listen to the reasons behind your judgement calls.
You will want to believe the company will return your loyalty, but don't be fooled - there's always someone better that management is anxious to hire and replace/downsize you.
The company had great potential and has been able to close healthy rounds of funding. However, it will be interesting to see how well the company endures with new marketplace lenders popping up every day, little customer-facing innovation occurring within the company and such high employee turnover.
I expect this review will have a politically correct response that doesn't actually represent reality. Remember that the CEO knows what to say but not how to actually do it. Having read the reviews so far, I would not be surprised if they were faked or prompted by mgmt to those who are currently in favor.

Be truthful in your promises. Treat people like people, not machines. Be more selfless. Allow leaders to lead. Get out of the woods and focus on steering the ship. Be OK with not knowing the future, especially when it comes to what rewards might come to those who stay with the company.
