Management were good role models for the NYC cutthroat environment. Despite the poor execution of the business, management did a good job of maintaining an air of professionalism and positive morale. Complete lack of transparency as to the state of the business. Complete lack of transparency with regards to employee compensation. Their business model will not succeed - it consists of being the middle man in the energy efficiency industry. Management do not have an engineering background and most of the company consists of sales people. Right from the start I was able to participate in engineering training and contribute to the team. I was taught how to complete all of the necessary work by the other engineers as new tasks arose. The other engineers were incredibly helpful in teaching and overall able to assist in any additional training that was needed. Throughout the process of the training and working on various buildings, I gained a clearer understanding of the basic engineering principles that came into play, but as well as other aspects of the business, such as financial analysis and energy analysis. Almost immediately, I was able to go on site visits to the properties that required information gathering. I shadowed a senior engineer and gained valuable training and experience in the process of observing the building and identifying the important details. Generally, we performed a full walkthrough of the building., which involved taking pictures of the key components in the building and conducting a lighting survey. This was excellent hands on experience that I was able to fully participate in from the start. The training I was able to do for the buildings was very useful as well. This involved gathering energy usage date and then performing energy analysis to determine what measures could be taken to reduce their usage. This information was then used to save the clients as much money as possible involving strategies such as updating to more efficient lighting, changing boiler fuel types, and outfitting radiators. This was an excellent application of the engineering knowledge that I learned throughout the course of my schooling. The workplace environment was stellar and I felt extremely comfortable from the first day. Everyone was willing to help and answer any questions that I had concerning the company's actual projects. The overall experience learning here is fantastic and I would highly recommend Associated Renewable to anyone looking to get into the industry. We had 7 people in a room not even the size of a dorm room. The kitchen was nice, but shared as well as everything else on the floor. Not the players they claim to be renting a small, small space on a shared floor with shared admin. Boiler Room. Its amazing they haven't been arrested yet. They rent 1 room in a nice building that they cram everyone in and stand over you all the while they promise you bs equity instead of pay. The sad thing is they will do this to friends and family just the same. Trust me. Not even worth writing this review.. They take advantage of recent graduates for free. Don't get lured by full-time position after trials. This company was able to provide me with valuable experience in working through the grants acquisition process and I got to interact with not only the Engineering & executive teams at the company, but was also able to communicate externally with utilities, clients and large property management companies. While working here, I performed spreadsheet-based financial analysis of the renewable & energy efficiency sectors, extensive report writing to summarize financials, projections of revenue and growth, P&L statements, some book-keeping and accounting work, as well as, presented to the executives on new areas for expansion. I also get to coordinate with our global offices in Europe and Asia, which provides me with a fair understanding of the financial markets abroad. As a Grants Specialist, I was able to attend initial meetings with clients, go on site visits occasionally and co-manage projects with department heads at utilities. They also provide equity in their compensation package, which is a great incentive for me personally because not many companies are willing to offer a piece of the ownership pie to their employees. The only con of working here would be the unpredictability of work - some days you have more work and the hours are longer. High employee turn over rate. The process for energy audits is not streamlined which leads to employees doing things in their own way. The compensation structure is ambiguous and it is not clear when or what amount you will receive.
