Job security
The job security this job has provided me for the past 3 years has been phenomenal. Knowing that I’m working for a company that has been around for 70+ years has provided me with peace of mind that I’m sure a lot of people have been lacking ever since the COVID-19 outbreak. I’m not going to pretend like this place is perfect, but the pros FAR outweigh the cons.
It can be difficult to collaborate at times because some of the work is siloed.

Worst employer ever
The joy of knowing you never have to return.
Lifeless. Trust no one. The senior leaders have no leadership skills, and all follow the CEO blindly. The CEO should have been replaced years ago. Stay away. You deserve better.

Top heavy in senior leadership and lack of resources
Great Benefits and casual dress work environment
Lack of consistency across organization. Lots of inside politics. Leadership lacks managerial skills/training. Resources lacking making it hard to succeed. Favoritism in upper management. CEO out of touch with needs of the organization. Lots of false promises that never are followed through.

Pay more attention to Senior Leadership and how they are treating their employees. Revenue is not the only thing that matters in order for a company to succeed. Invest in the human capital of your organization not just the Senior leaders who make the company money.

Can you give a place a half a star?
Most of the employees are nice. Alexandria is cool and parking is free.
The leadership is terrible. A lot of brown-nosing goes on here.
They keep Directors around even after the entire department turned over and complained. He was given a different role eventually. They elevate people that are clueless and then they fire lower staff, only to be fired later themselves
DO NOT work here. You will be glad I warned you. Everyone leaves there and gets a better gig at the larger HR Association. Save yourself the headache and just apply there.
They have no clue of how to develop people, yet that is what they are selling
After this experience, I would probably never work in the Association space.

Run by a dictator and senior leaders are brown nosers
I would recommend anyone, spend one more month job hunting rather than accepting an opportunity at ATD. Life is short to take stress and there are several other places which will offer a much better work environment. It will be worth it.
Flexibility of schedule
Casual dress code
Free parking, snacks, fruits
Decent 401k & benefits
Where to start, the place is a mess.
The CEO is like a puppet master and the rest of staff are puppets. I have not seen any place which is ran by such a strong hold and no one dares says anything. If you do say anything, the next thing is you are out the door (quietly). If the CEO says left is right, the whole company will have to follow. This creates an environment of fear and politics.

Provide offer letter to new employees with statutory warning: Working here will be injurious to health (Mental).
The whole leadership needs to change. None of the senior leaders are trustworthy. All want to be the CEO's pet.
Its sad to see an association with a great mission and member base run in such a manner.

Good place that's committed to improving.
These are in no particular order:
Opportunities to develop yourself and advance your career are there if you look for them. It helps to have a clear target of how you want to grow, and to have a manager who is interested in facilitating that.
Most departments let you work in the way that's most comfortable for you. Do you want to wear a T-shirt and jeans to work and arrive at 10am? Fine if you get your job done. Do you want want to wear a suit and arrive at 7am? Fine if you get your job done.
It's exciting to support the association's members. They are trying to help people at their organizations grow and develop in their careers. ATD can directly contribute to members' growth, and by doing so, indirectly contribute to the growth of many workers across the world.
The organization is genuinely trying to improve, both as a resource for its members and as a place to work for its employees. It has undergone many changes in the last several years that have made development opportunities easier to access and increased transparency.
ATD has also been around for more than 75 years. To me it's nice to work at an established organization that is older than me and will probably be around long after I'm not working here.
Most people who work here are nice and are very invested in being good at what they do.
Two top products - education courses and conferences - are doing very well for the most part.
Some departments are much better to work in than others. To me, there are certain "no go" zones in the organization where I don't think people are put in situations where anyone is likely to succeed and where I would not take a job. We have to continue working to fix these. There's progress. At least one of these seems to be getting better right now. Another department that was previously in this situation seems fixed.
The content can be sprawling and unfocused, and most of the smaller, non-serialized pieces are weak. They're either not specific to the organization's audience (i.e. generic leadership/business content that other organizations will always do better), too obviously written by vendors, or just not high enough quality to be of much value. Rather than bringing attention to the organization's bread and butter products like education courses and the international conference, they just make those products harder to find on the website and muddle what ATD is for its members.

Scale back on content enough so that we only put out very high quality material. The serialized publications are largely better than the blogs, but the blogs (which aren't sufficiently curated or screened for quality) obscure them. Maybe consider cutting back on the number of topics and industries that each receive their own standalone blogs. We can still cover those areas, but let's make sure we do it well by not overdoing it. We could also cut back on the number of small events.
Consider launching a quarterly, academic-style journal to provide better resources for members who have 10+ years of experience in the profession but are still individual contributors. It could be reviewed by a board of chapter members and probably be operated by just one or one-and-a-half internal staff. This would complement our own research well and potentially provide material that could be re-used for higher-level content.
Focus on getting steady hands to lead departments that have struggled with stability. Maybe experienced internal people with a history of being effective in the organization and a deep understanding of members would be more effective than outside hires. I think these traits would make for at least solid players in those roles and help the organization continue walking its talk on internal growth.
