This organization used to be a great place to work, then the old CEO left and in his abscence to others had a power play. Then they brought in CEO who had 14 jobs in 16 years. Enough said.
|
Killed the great culture, at least most of the old VPs are gone now, but the con is that it's all of the new CEO's buddies calling the shots. This NGO is dying on the vine.

Good little nonprofit for a good cause wtih smart people

I always feel on my toes to be smart and up-to-date on things about asthma and allergies because these people really care. I feel like I'm making a difference when I finish each day, so that is very rewarding.

Salaries should be better here in the DC area! A girls gotta make a living and a family and it's hard on a nonprofit entry-level salary :-/

Help us to figure out what we can do to earn more salary -- even if we have to go out on a limb and stretch beyond our comfort level. One of the VPs in particular here is really good at helping people raise money from sponsors and such, so it would be nice if all the VPs did the same for the other employees

Solid charity organization with entrepreneurial soul

Long-established national non-profit charity organization with a great repuptation that is stable and growing at a manageable pace. Not a "rat race" but definitely the work is demanding and we all need to be pretty fast. The mission is the focus here and it gives me a reason to come to work and feel good about what I'm doing every day, even when the hours get long. Benefits are good and competitive even compared to my friends who work for the Federal Govt. Nice 403(b) retirement plan with employer contribution, paid health (dental and eye), free parking, etc.

Small organization so everyone has a lot to do, sometimes outside our specific written job description. Advancement is slow, but at least there is a visible path from assistants, to coordinators, to managers, to directors to VP, and I've seem people go up the path over time. Landover MD location -- NOT the best! -- but at least it's inside the beltway and next to the New Carrollton metro stop.

A couple of the managers (some long-timers, some brand new) are real stand-outs and make work a nice place to be, and a nice place to learn and experiment with new ideas. A recent merger with a smaller nonprofit is still ongoing so I hope management encourages more cross-teamwork, and so far it looks promising. I'll stay!
