Give us 1 Hour Lunch Breaks, Improve the aesthetic of our Cafeteria. Look at some of these big companies on how they do it and try to make ours even better. It’s very dull to see the same boring space and furniture. Let the employees participate and not just a selected few. If you going to have a company wide survey on quality of life, please separate it in 2 Categories. 1-individual Department survey and 2-company wide Survey.

That old saying, 'what goes around comes around' has a lot of merit. Never were some of us happier than to actually see that old adage in action not that long ago, right before Spring.
Those who earn their "senior manager" title positions .. gosh, how should I put this...NOT based on actual professional merit or accomplishment but instead, various other ‘talents and methods,’ probably shouldn't be surprised when they're eventually let go. Sometimes it takes a few years for the universe to right itself as it did in this case, but it eventually happens – and when it does, it’s a glorious sight to see. After all, one can only pretend to be qualified for a senior management position for so long before someone finally calls an end to the ongoing farce and brings it to a halt. Of course, that could only happen AFTER the elderly ‘benefactor’ who created this position (out of sheer gratefulness) was made to retire due to his advancing age and could no longer protect his pet.
Admittedly for a good number of us, it was very enjoyable watching an overpaid, ineffectual phony have to make the walk of shame out to her car with all her personal effects once the hammer came down. It's my biggest regret that I'd left the year before and didn't get to watch the show. Sorry, no sympathy at ALL here for those of us who have always known how this ‘position’ REALLY came to be.
As far as the CEO, he comes off as a nice guy and he's pretty likable - but underneath it all? You're NOTHING more to him than a number and he wouldn't hesitate to shove that dagger right between your shoulder blades if it benefited him. That's no joke, folks - I've seen him do it. With that guy, you have to walk softly but carry a big stick.

Management - if any of you are going to create new job titles with a bigger paycheck as a quid pro quo for what you're 'getting' from an employee, at LEAST try to be a little discreet about it. The old "hiding in plain site" strategy doesn't work on everyone.
I'm sure this debacle has been one of life's teachable moments for some of the herd.

Advancement opportunities are there, but get it down in writing when they say they are going to promote you. The job is not as high stress compared to other jobs I've been at.
|
If you ever have management tell you that they are going to promote you by a certain time, make sure to get it down in writing. I was told this in my interview that by the end of the year I would be promoted, but then the end of the year came and I was told that it was written down in my review for the following year as a suggestion. I left a REALLY good company because I was told I'd be promoted in my interview and it never happened, even though when they laid off the person I would be replacing, I took on the extra work with nothing in return. No bonuses, and the annual salary increases (if you get one) are a joke. Certain departments are always working over time and don't get the same benefits as other departments. If you are interviewing for shipping, IT, or customer service, and get hired, DO NOT schedule anything in your personal life at the end of the month, even if it falls on a weekend or paid holiday. You will be expected to work. There are a ton of layoffs. There is a lot of gossip and catty behavior.

Follow through with your promises. Treat ALL departments the same. Manage better so that at the end of the month some of your people aren't staying in the building until 9pm, or coming in on their weekend/paid holidays, while you are at home with your families. Maybe if you made your management team stay until the last item was shipped, they would have a better handle on their responsibilities.

Benefits are good for salaried individuals.

Company went from a family type atmosphere to a corporate environment where you are just a number in managements eyes regardless of the prostrations of "Family" they portent. If you are not important to upper managements needs at that given time.. you practically nothing and unfortunately unnoticed despite your talents.
