Women and POC tend to not move forward as much. No explicitly discriminatory behavior, just trends. - Tries to be independent, but is actually held on a pretty tight leash by SAP. - Leadership can be very sensitive to feedback in that they get offended and angry. - Turnover is very high. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 5.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 3.0 3.0 1.0 817997 Open I think the board needs to step in, but maybe the company has made strides since my employment ended. 0.0
Thank you for your feedback.

First, I appreciate that you shared the “pros” and opportunities that are available to our team—there is a lot to learn here, there are so many great people, and there’s amazing potential for those who are invested in our organization and its mission.

My team has and continues to strive toward offering career-building experiences and growth opportunities for all of our employees as we execute on our mission to help ASUG members make more possible. There is regular communication from upper level management to all staff, and the CEO is great at providing open forums for the entire team to raise questions or voice concerns on sensitive topics. The company is fiercely dedicated to living its values and promoting a healthy work culture. Unfortunately, not everyone is a team player. private:asug https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=817997 Nov 6th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open ASUG Chicago, IL Not disgruntled, just disappointed Create great connections with clients, nice looking office, there some great people there, great travel accommodations, the mission is solid at its core. Where does one even begin? For a mission that has such great intentions and possibilities, it doesn't maintain those sentiments internally. Preaching proactivity, yet being reactive with employees, and preaching empathy when that's the largest void in the office. Those in entry/associate level positions are being told their thoughts matter when in reality it's a bizarre power dynamic that makes you feel as if whatever you say won't have an effect. This isn't just a personal experience, it's an experience that, unfortunately, a lot of us will continue to deal with. The place is struggling with what type of office it wants to be, and while it appears to attract millennials, upper management is the complete opposite and still retains norms from the 90s and early 2000s which lead to a confusing work environment. Optics are massive here, and are more important than the work you are doing. In this office, choose wisely who you trust because everyone whispers and is completely content with creating an unwelcoming workplace, whether they're confused or not. Essentially, if you're supposed to work until 5, make sure you stay until 5:10 because it's game of chicken to see who leaves first. Lastly, please treat your employees as if they're individuals, rather than carbon copies of the next person. There's no book on how to work with millennials and it's important from upper management to utilize the strengths in their employees, instead of placing everyone in the same buckets. If we have complaints, listen to us, rather than instantly coming up with a counter in an attempt to lessen your responsibility as a supervisor and to erase the value of what your employee is experiencing. Remember, nobody wants to come to a place they feel unwelcome and it's not something they've grabbed out of the air. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 0.0 NO_OPINION 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 3.0 1.0 817997 Open Start treating people as PEOPLE, and not just by the departments they work within or their age group. There is a lack of leadership within the organization that has seemingly failed to rally anyone, while in turn, scared people away. private:asug https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=817997 Oct 30th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open ASUG Employee United States USA Company has purpose, but management is absolutely delusional For the most part, you're able to take on a lot of projects and responsibilities you couldn't at a larger company. There is a lot to learn if you are eager to do so. You get to work along side a powerful company (SAP) in the ever-changing tech space. Benefits are good. Work life balance is fair for the most part, except when you're in "event season." The turnover rate is absolutely astounding and no one will speak about it, and it really effects the already toxic culture. There is hardly any room for growth, and each department gets to decide the rules in regards to bonuses/promotions/raises so there is absolutely no consistency or fairness. Management has the tendency to hire their friends that are completely unfit for their jobs and are solely hungry for a specific job title. ASUG hired an outside research company to help tell them what their company values should be--they couldn't even figure it out in-house. There are no processes or ways of doing things consistently so it's a constant, confusing free-for-all. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 4.0 2.0 4.0 1.0 2.0 4.0 1.0 817997 Open Listen to your employees on the ground level---there are a lot of good, hard workers here that want ASUG to improve and have great ideas as to how. private:asug https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=817997 Sep 3rd, 2019 12:00AM Open Open ASUG Conference Producer Syracuse, NY Struggling to empower employees & define process Great opportunities to make and facilitate connections. I highly valued the chances I had to interact with people from all across the world in quite a few different aspects of business. I was initially given significant autonomy to become an internal subject matter expert and help lead business decisions about individual product brands. I enjoyed the tight knit atmosphere of the Syracuse office and felt valued and supported by most of my local colleagues. ASUG has struggled to make the acquisition of Eventful Conferences feel like a part of its core business. Morale is dangerously low among many of the employees. When management needs to constantly reassure a group that they aren't shutting down an office, it's a sign that people don't feel secure or, to some extent, valued. With significant turnover and low effort to fill those positions, people feel uneasy about their future. The most distressing part of the last 2 years of my time with Eventful and ASUG (essentially the entire time post-acquisition) was the shift from a product-driven mindset to a marketing-driven mindset, making me and several others feel seriously disempowered. Decisions that previously relied on input from product experts were now being made by a marketing team that struggled to achieve much beyond segmenting email audiences. While some good faith efforts were made to create better messaging, much of that content (created by the product team) was left on the table and hardly used. Even those on the marketing team were hamstrung by a deluge of new process hurdles - often times being told to stop doing what was previously done but not being given a clear direction for how to do something differently. All of Eventful felt paralyzed by new layers of management and approval that did not have clear instructions or consistent application. Even when this was brought to leadership within the company, it was met with either blatant lip service or unclear and unkept promises to get better soon. I know that many people also feel underpaid for the amount of work they do. The Events team, for instance, is expected to put in enormous overtime hours during peak conference season for a pittance of compensation. I went 3 years without a raise and at the time I left the company I was making about 7% less than in my first year due to failure to keep pace with inflation and changes (i.e., reductions) in the bonus structure for Producers despite working on conferences that generated more revenue and profit. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NO_OPINION 5.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 817997 Open Recognize the value in employees who have knowledge and experience to share. If you're going to change the process for everything, have an idea of what you want to replace it with before you tell people to stop doing it the old way. Maintain some of the individuality of the conference brands, you don't need to standardize everything. Please stop using the picture of the woman in the red power suit for the Call for Speakers. The best thing about ASUG is the people. This is a group of caring individuals that truly want to make a difference and genuinely care about what they do. The office and location are on point- a commuters dream. ASUG offers above-average benefits, office perks- snacks, drinks, happy-hour Fridays, company outings- they have it all! The work can be fast-paced, high-energy, and challenging but if you enjoy learning and growing professionally this is a great place. There is never a shortage of opportunities if you are willing to take them. The CEO takes the time to write an email every week to the organization- on his thoughts for the week. To me, that is someone who cares- not many CEO's take the time out of their lives to do that. It's not a perfect company, nor will it ever be perfect; is any company really perfect? There has been a fairly large turnover recently- the CEO even mentioned it in his recent email to the organization. There are things that can improve and changes that can be made but they are working on it. private:asug https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=817997 Aug 8th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open ASUG Conference Producer Syracuse, NY Would very highly advise you don’t consider this company Great exposure to the greater SAP community. In all of the organizations I have worked at or interfaced with in my career, this is by far and wide the worst. To start, the experience/product for their customers is awful (during my time, members of the user group grandstanded a presentation at the volunteer conference to air their grievances, they plead with ASUG to “help them, help ASUG”). NEVER and I truly mean never, have I been a part of an organization with a more disorganized and unfit management team. I worked for Eventful Conferences (the arm of the company that executes their conferences) —the staff I interfaced with on the Eventful side also had challenges — more related to a shift from entrepreneurial to mid market, but overall was kind and supportive and made every attempt to collaborate with the ASUG side of the enterprise as we were "all one team" with many centralized components. On the ASUG side their is little strategic vision, people are overworked and unhappy, and most unfortunate of all, disrespect runs rampant. Their CEO refuses to acknowledge or deal with any issues at hand, and their marketing team is so far behind best practices, not to mention inclusive of department members who behave extremely inappropriately and are not at all held accountable. In the less than one year I worked for this company over 15 people (that I am aware of ) left. Other team members were terminated through various means that I would argue no one would want to subject themselves to willingly. I truly don't know how they will dig themselves out of this hole, but should they, there is much opportunity to be not only a great resource for the SAP community, but a great company. But if the ability to foster growth, create a great product for your customers and do it in an environment where you are respected and encouraged, right now, this is not that organization. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 5.0 1.0 4.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 817997 Open You should be ashamed of the culture that your example has fostered.
