Athabasca University provides a very flexible working environment. It is a great place to work.

Staff is spread out among 4 offices, and professors work at home. Communication between staff is mostly through email or phone calls, which makes people strange to each other even if they have worked together for years.

Work from home. Flexible work hours. Accredited university. Excellent range of courses and programs. The hourly pay rate for academic experts is competitive.

You only get paid for the time you work on a minute by minute basis. Overall, I think that you get underpaid. Also, as an academic expert (tutor) you are not treated as part of the faculty. You do not attend meetings or events. There is a lack of connection and collaboration.
