Valuable experience for an engineering student
|
The job allowed me to see many job sites and sometimes found it valuable to meet engineers or contractors, although I was often working around new faces every day. There is sometimes a lot of downtime, for better or for worse. Hours for the next day are emailed to you around 6:30 the night before, and the times will vary widely (could be as early as 4:00am) due to the nature of the work.

Its a good job for an intern that will not stay
|
Work days include driving long distances to the job sites and inspect or test materials on site using standardized test methods. Management is very disrespectful and show no appreciation of their employee's. The workers are probably the best thing to come out of the company. The hardest part of the job is dealing with management that cant get their heads straight. The most enjoyable part of the job is being out of the office working in unique places.

|
There are 10 different offices around the state and every office is ran very different. My experience is only from the Albany office. The manger at the time was the worse manager I have ever had. But ATL as a whole is not like him. There are truly some of the best people there and who will help and answer any questions you have. Some of the rules and the way the company is run is very old school. Overall the company isn’t all bad and I truly had a great time there.

|
The boss was rude to everyone from sun up to sun down. There was no set schedule, some days begin at 4AM some begin at 11AM. Never a guarantee that you would make 40 hours each week. Underpaid to work with asbestos.

ATL is a typical low-grade inspection and testing agency, complete with the usual assortment of lying managers, uncoordinated coordinators, and drug-addicted technicians.
Their business philosophy amounts to assuring clients that work performed at their sites will be acceptable (regardless of quality), while encouraging the technicians to pad the bills with obscure charges.
I could write a 300-page book on how this company is a toxic workplace, but I will let prospective employees discover that for themselves.
