Experienced microaggressions in the form of racial comments in the workplace. Personally experienced and witnessed other forms of harassment in front of upper management, and these instances were never talked about or addressed. Felt like I was undervalued as a person and employee, all the company cares about is meeting their unrealistic goals for the month- even if that means overworking and undervaluing employees. People are smart and have a healthy sense of humor. If you’re hungry to learn and are level headed, this is the place for you. As a startup, there will be inherent challenges, particularly in an industry that has few competitors. You’ll thrive in this environment if you’re a thinker, self-driven, and support the vision (let the people hear). In many ways, you get out of this company how much you put in. The CEO listens and cares about employee career development, which is rare. There are opportunities here for innovation. I truly loved working with the team and the company's efforts in making sure employees are good fit definitely shows. I especially valued the individual attention and mentorship my manager gave me coming in at the company. They make sure you have the resources to be successful in the role which is important since hearing aids are typically a foreign subject for most. CEO also tried his best to check up on the welfare of his employees which is encouraging. Healthcare is a very useful and compelling industry to be in at the moment and your experience working in it will be useful later down the line. Great worklife balance and laidback culture. More of an autonomous environment. Growing pains and volatility with startups are common and should be expected to some degree Dealing with being at both a startup and at a company that mainly services an elderly and disabled demographic can be quite stressful. Customers can be pretty abusive at times. There definitely needs to be some type of HR system in place to create structure and regulation internally. Upward mobility opportunities and monetary incentives need to be more fully enforced for people to work hard. If there are incentives in place, make sure that they are achievable and aren't unrealistic targets. Find more ways to motivate and empower your employees. Knowing that what you are doing is a social good is sometimes not enough. Offer more progression and growth prospects within the company. Current employees want to know what position they will be at the company years down the line. Much like any startup, the highs are high and the lows are low.
