private:avascent https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=199578 Jun 22nd, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Avascent Junior Consultant Washington, DC Hard Work but Good Compny This job isn’t perfect but the overall office environment is supportive and kind, with upper management really making an effort to get to know entry level staff and helping each other out. I have an incredible amount of respect for the CEO and the office itself is filled with intelligent and competent employees. You learn a lot and people are very willing to help you if you need. The job is intellectually challenging and the learning curve is steep but rewarding. There is minimal travel which is a huge perk for consulting and great benefits. The org structure is also very flat and feels a lot more casual and comfortable than other work environments. Culture is great and I’ve really enjoyed my coworkers. It’s smaller and less bureaucratic than a lot of places and you’re given more responsibility. Interesting projects too! Also important to keep in mind that government work is more stable and dependable than other industries-this is a good consulting gig to have if you are nervous about the economy. Like all consulting companies-the hours are rough. It can be difficult to juggle the tasks and the workload is incessant. I think management is trying to work on this by hiring more consultants but they still have a long way to go. Work life balance is definitely a struggle. We could also work on diversity efforts but it’s been publicly addressed by management and they are working to improve it. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 2.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 199578 Open Work on minimizing hours worked per employee. Also, this is an ongoing initiative but hire more POCs! We are sorely lacking diversity. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 0.0 Jan 8th, 2021 05:37PM Jan 8th, 2021 05:37PM Avascent

Poor work/life balance; quality of life is largely determined by the disposition and talent of your particular project manager or director; can be difficult to manage 2+ projects concurrently; opaque review process. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 4.0 2.0 3.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 199578 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Jan 8th, 2021 05:37PM Jan 8th, 2021 05:37PM Avascent
private:avascent https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=199578 Nov 26th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Avascent Consultant United States USA Great Place to Work Avascent is a great place to work where you get out of it what you put in. Initiative and curiosity are fostered and rewarded, with the firm’s leadership striking the right balance between providing training and support to staff without prescribing career paths or interests. Analysts and project managers are given great leeway to develop and follow their own passions, and many have had a large impact on the firm through internal initiatives or ideas for new business pursuits. Additionally, Avascent offers many of the pros of a small company (camaraderie, fast-moving environment, greater opportunities for ownership and growth) while boasting a well-deserved reputation for producing work on par with, and in many ways superior to, the larger Big 4 consulting firms. If you are interested in Aerospace & Defense, working at Avascent will not only enhance your personal reputation but will also equip you intellectually and functionally to be a high performer at any future job. The main drawbacks are typical of any consulting job: long and unpredictable hours. That said, I do believe that Avascent is as good as consulting gets. Travel is minimal, with 99% of your days taking place at your local office (whether that’s DC, Ottawa, London, or Paris). Additionally, projects tend to be short (4-8 weeks), which means that even projects you don’t like end relatively quickly. Finally, the firm does make a good faith effort to find ways to improve the working environment, such as soliciting staffing interests and taking steps to distribute diligence work more fairly. Given the small size of the company and the timing of projects, these efforts don’t always pay off as much as many junior staff would hope, but leadership’s willingness to try and find solutions indicates the seriousness with which they take employee satisfaction. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 2.0 4.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 199578 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 4.0 Jan 8th, 2021 05:37PM Jan 8th, 2021 05:37PM Avascent
private:avascent https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=199578 Oct 4th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Avascent Project Manager Washington, DC Fantastic firm with opportunities for learning and growth Avascent is a wonderful place to begin your career. Growing Firm: It was very exciting to working for an established, but still-growing organization. The size of the firm and flat working structure provides room for hands-on learning and rapid growth. When I began as a summer analyst, I trusted with meaningful project assignments where I could work with senior managers and even engage with clients. Ideas are welcome, regardless of tenure. Firm Culture: Avascent's management is committed to preserving a supportive and collegial (and fun!) environment. Even with multiple international offices, the entire firm culture is very cohesive. Junior staff is encouraged to weigh in, and there are ample stretch opportunities. Outside of the project context, the firm-wide events are a blast. I made some of my best friends at Avascent, and the alumni network is very supportive of one another. Also, dress is casual, and there are great snacks! Exciting Subject Matter: Avascent provides a unique opportunity to engage with cutting edge technologies and the defense sector, as well as senior officials and decision-makers within the commercial and government space. Everyday research and analysis is exciting. Flexibility: Analysts are responsible for managing their own schedules given the assignments they have, which allows for a lot of flexibility for doctor's appointments, PTO, etc. There isn't a "first one in, last one out" expectation. At times, project load can be demanding when close to project delivery. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 1.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 199578 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 4.0 Jan 8th, 2021 05:37PM Jan 8th, 2021 05:37PM Avascent
private:avascent https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=199578 Sep 23rd, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Avascent Senior Analyst United States USA Challenging, in Both Positive and Negative Ways Avascent is an outstanding place to start a career. It provides great exposure to allow junior employees to develop strong business acumen and analysis skills. The firm gives employees a lot of responsibility from the get-go, and never hesitates to challenge them with "stretch opportunities". The people are what make the hard days (and weeks, and months) worth it. Avascent hires top-notch people who treat each other like family and can be a place where one can develop lifelong friendships. The "stretch opportunities" mentioned above has stretched some employees, especially those 1-3 years in, quite thin. The quality of the output Avascent demands on tight timelines is often only achievable by working 50/60 intense hours per week. There is a culture of working late or over weekends and often eating up three day weekends with an extra day of work, which can quickly lead to frustration amongst employees. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 4.0 2.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 199578 Open Continue to invest in the analysts, putting their happiness before (over) signing work will lead to investment back into the firm. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 0.0 Jan 8th, 2021 05:37PM Jan 8th, 2021 05:37PM Avascent
