Great technology, company managed to sell
Great culture, autonomy, great benefits, ran by seasoned medical device professionals, no micromanagement, best in class technology
High turnover, not growth oriented, positioned to protect current business so they can eventually sell the company. Comp is so widely variable, if business shifts, you go broke. Especially without an outpatient strategy.

Revert to 2013 strategy and give outpatient labs the capital for free or on loan. Develop a portable capital component so you can penetrate the OPL sector with catheter-only sales. Consider partnering with local distributors to manage cases in existing accounts, so Avinger-based sales staff can concentrate on opening new accounts. Reps currently cover cases like BSX, Medtronic and Abbott while only maintaining 2-5 hospitals per geography. Since late 2016, territories have been reduced from >10 per Region down to 5 sustainable territories managing a small handful of hospitals (only 3 viable regions remain with West dying...2-3 accounts in Sac/SF, 2 in LA, 2 in AZ).

Great company with a lot of potential
I loved being a part of the Avinger team. This company is made up of employees who genuinely care about one another and also care about the product itself. Avinger has a very welcoming environment with employees who truly want to work hard and do their best.

Great Products, incompetent leadership
Lumivascular technology really will change the way we treat peripheral vascular disease if the company is either purchased by a solid company with good leadership, or the current leadership is let go. The technology is the legacy of Dr. John Simpson, a brilliant, innovative, and yet down-to-earth founder of the company, and he is the one bright spot in the leadership at this point.
Management has no idea what they are doing. The senior leadership does not know how to lead, edify, and mentor their fellow leaders in middle management, and one of the middle managers is the most arrogant, micro-managing, deceitful glory grabbers I have ever seen. Senior leadership seems to be blind to the problems this guy has caused, and continues to cause, as he decimates his region, and loses customers right and left. Also, the capital equipment is not well managed. Their philosophy of getting as many dollars as possible at any cost for the capital is foolish and misguided because it inhibits the utilization and uptake of the disposables. In addition, there have been some manufacturing issues as well that continue to plague them, which leads to problems in confidence by the end users (physicians). Also, the communication is very poor.

Fake news? More like FAKE ENGINEERING.
Rank and file employees are generally nice, easy to get along with. People here like to do things together like go running over lunch or go out to eat; they want to be friends, not just coworkers.
Technical design leadership is extremely weak (read: CTO sucks).
Product design is 100% top-down from the CTO, who insists on making all decisions himself because he doesn't trust his very qualified engineers. Engineers basically place POs on his behalf, weather the wrath of vendors who get frustrated with unreasonable flip-flopping (rightfully so), or are simply his CAD monkeys.
His decisions are almost never data driven. He uses his strange brand of logic to justify his calls, which probably sound good to a non-technical person, but are not grounded in real engineering.
If you choose to call him out on this, no matter how well founded in data, equations, or best practice your argument is, he will passive-aggressively blacklist you and never acknowledge the value of anything you do. The only way to win and be promoted or recognized, is to suck up.
R&D often comes full circle to arrive at a design that had been discarded before; this is quite simply because he has NO ACTUAL IDEA WHAT HE'S DOING. He has a terrible memory for the history of a design, yet never chooses to document anything.

FIRE THE CTO. All show and no substance. The only things he's experienced in are creating the illusion of making progress and taking credit for himself.
I GUARANTEE product would be shipped by now and not perpetually stuck in R&D if it wasn't for him and his nonsensical justifications. Get him out of the way and let your engineers do actual engineering work.

Good company + people
You are helping people fight PAD, it's rewarding and you can feel proud about it. Also, you're at the forefront of innovation. And you get to work with brilliant minds like Dr. Simpson and a few passionate folks.
It'a total corporate office with little culture. Management is not transparent.
