Environment changing for the worst/experience depends on who you report to
As a whole there are a lot of great people at Axios. Mostly remote although there seems to be a shift away from that if you live in the dmv area.
There’s a cult like culture that some try to force down your throat. There’s been some dramatic changes lately and Axios no longer feels like Axios. Their compensation is not up to par with the industry or competitive. The review system they have in place that determines if you get a raise is broken and if your manager isn’t fond of you then don’t expect to get a raise even if you deserve it. The disorganization from the top down is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I’ve witnessed a lot of toxicity within the last 6 months, gaslighting of employees, and workplace bullying. Depending where you fall on the workplace “hierarchy” you may feel like you’re dispensable & some of the executives/ppl at the top are unbearable. I’ve also noticed that the only ppl who have room for growth here are those who are already at the top.

Put in a system that allows for those who aren’t at the top to be able to give feedback without retaliation. You need a better “checks and balance system” to keep tabs on managers and executives.

Serious and seriously flexible
The company focuses a lot on its culture and trying to see where it's audience is going and where it's staff is going, so that it can meet the needs of each without a lot of friction
I don't get to see many of my team members in person because it's mostly remote

There are many fun app-based and digital systems, for booking travel, benefits etc. But it's not always easy to figure out the policies for using them.

Thoughtfully managed company
High and rising engineering and product standards at this company. Solid ads business, solid tech talent, overall great outlookfor a media company. Leadership is thoughtful, and the managers I interact with are extremely empathetic and patient. Most individuals here are good natured and smart. Cox deal was well timed and in my opinion, an excellent decision.
Overall compensation is actually quite competitive, especially now that a new 401k match is in place, but not always market leading for engineers.

There are issues of course, but the difference I’ve seen here is that management hunts down problems within teams and tries hard to address them. Continue thinking critically.

Management has hired up quickly in the company's 6 years in business, and quality control has suffered. Focus should be on hiring super smart people and maintaining quality control rather than just filling chairs and pumping revenue. Selling out to Cox seemed like a shotgun marriage and a mistake.
