Great people, chill and fun environment, good location and a product that legitimately saves lives. Salary wasn't very high. No 10bis - one person on the company nearly got fired for asking about it! The business model isn't great and they aren't very stable financially. It seems like leadership is a bit out of sorts and they don't have their priorities set straight. Internal communication and transparency was a particularly string point. There were monthly company-wide meetings with the CEO who would give a detailed update on the status and trajectory of the company. All team meetings were held out in the open and inter-team meetings were held between once a week and once every two weeks. Management strategy is clearly focused on cohesive teamwork rather than formal hierarchy and that was felt on every level. The focus was on getting the job done in a calm, informal environment while maintaining a good work life balance. I have no complaints from my time there. What I will say is that when working at Ayyeka independence and initiative are expected. At the time of this writing this is still a relatively small company, so expect a diverse range of responsibilities and an expectation for independent thinking. Flexible work-life balance Ability to work from home (depends on manager) New office is spacious - particularly after layoffs A startup, so junior employees are given varied roles and a little more responsibility than might otherwise be expected Ayyeka is a mostly bootstrapped IoT company with (basically) one use-case (sewer monitoring) and major customer. Management is extremely top-down -- which is not particularly surprising given the military background of the two founders, but negates most of the benefits of working at a startup Internal communication is almost non-existent, closed doors meetings abound, and there's absolutely zero transparency on the health of the business or revenues. Outside of the small inner circle that run the show, employees know little of substance about what's really going on. Also unsurprising given the company's fundraising record, but there's a culture of doing everything as cheaply as possible - and employing strange ruses to facilitate that objective. There's a Nespresso machine, but you're expected to buy your own capsules (I kid you not). Expect to fight tooth and nail for compensation increases, be given a budget that's beyond shoestring, and to be strung along on false promises that both those things will change. Despite the rosy picture that the company's marketing efforts paint, there was a recent round of layoffs that axed about 20% of the workforce. Others simply got fed up and left of their own accord. While I was there, it was hard to avoid the feeling that it was a rapidly sinking ship, but looks as if they're still knocking around. -1.0 NEGATIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 2.0 4.0 2.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 1444846 Open Grow up, raise some proper funding, and stop trying to run this thing like a broke student's college project. Stop the blatant lies at the all-hands monthly meetings (most of those fired were not acknowledged or even thanked for their service) and give your employees a picture into what's really going on. Share some decision-making and responsibility beyond the smaller clique at the top. Cool! Working here was extremely educational and a totally relaxed yet exciting environment. It's a small company so people are in and out of the office a lot and lacks strict organization throughout the company.
