Great Company with Great People
B2i is a great place to work. If you work or want to work in digital marketing, it’s absolutely one of the best companies in Omaha. I was able to learn and grow so much during my time here, and credit that to trust that the company has in its employees starting with the founders. If you’re self-motivated and love learning, you’ll love it here.
The culture is fun and relaxed. The team likes working here, and it’s a close group that enjoys being around each other. A high level of productivity is definitely expected, though. It’s not a workplace that’s worried more about what they put on social media than the work they do. Doing great work that delivers value matters. As touched on earlier, learning is encouraged as well. Testing new techniques and strategies is always seen as a positive, and every individual has the opportunity to contribute in this way.
B2i is also an incredibly family-friendly company. I’ve never had an issue taking time off with sick kids, going to a doctor’s appointment, or anything along those lines. In general, they’re very flexible about this as long as you’re getting your work done.
Some of the processes are still a work in progress. Probably nothing that you wouldn’t run into at other agencies or businesses, though. The team is definitely working to improve in this area and the company has taken big steps forward over the last couple years.

Continuing to Grow
Over my time at B2 Interactive, the company has gone through its fair share of growing pains, but that isn’t unlike other companies that are growing within Omaha.
The owners allow for individuals to grow and try new things that others in the industry may not yet be trying. There’s little sense of “don’t try something new” and a lot of “let’s see how this can make us better.”
There’s no fear of idea sharing as teams work together to finish projects, taking cues from one another on how to better execute each task from one project to the next.
Last, the wide age spectrum throughout the company has provided a strong mentor/mentee environment. But you do have to seek it out. We’re all pushed to continue our own learning, but it doesn’t happen just because. Overall, it has been a great place to learn and grow.
Work can sometimes feel repetitive. But that’s truly the nature of most digital work. Pushes you to find new ways to make work not seem like a broken record.

Casual work environment, unlimited vacation (until they lay you off and don't have to pay you out any vacation time, which I'm sure was their goal all along). Pets allowed in the office.
You basically had to be one of the co-owner's cronies to insure your job safety. One of the co-owners acted like he wanted honest feedback and discussions from employees when things started to go downhill, but then when you gave it he would get angry and defensive. It was also clear they had no idea how to run an agency, even though they desperately wanted to pass off the facade that they could.
There were expectations in place, but no one knew how to meet them to satisfy the owners. Job security was also a constant threat looming overhead. We would routinely ask about our job safety and be reassured that everything was fine, only to have a massive 29 person lay-off directly before the Holidays with barely any compensation. Not a great parting gift when one of the co-owners paraded around in a Jag. It was very, very clear where their priorities lie (their own salaries). I'm not surprised at all by who's still at the company since they were all right hand men and women to the co-owners.

Loved it till the downsize

Made some great professional connections that I will value forever. Learned a lot, and had a pretty good time doing so. Good culture (at the time).
Always on the lookout for new opportunities, the owners over-extended themselves far too often. The result of which was a layoff of almost the entire content/marketing teams, as well as alienating Hurrdat employees. Bill Hipsher was a very odd person, and very difficult to understand or work with.
Low-balled paygrades whenever possible. Some people were working their butts off and getting paid very, very little compared to industry averages for the area.

At this point...there isn't a point in giving advice. The mission seems to shift so rapidly that it's impossible to know what market they want to be in. Defaulting on storage properties and releasing that team as well was sad to see.

Working at B2 Interactive
Very casual environment, rarely bothered so you're left alone to do your job, minimal meetings, pets sometimes in the office, ability to work remotely if needed, flexible times.
This seemed like a great place to work until I was a couple of months in. There were a few major changes in my short period of time with the company. It should have been obvious the first time that the co-owners had no idea of the direction they wanted to go, nor how to get there and push to the top of the industry locally.
It was painful to watch how many lives they effected in such a short period of time. It was equally painful going into work each day and being afraid of what major changes would be made next, and if you'll be the one getting the boot next.
Even upon my exit, it was disastrous on their end. They don't have "it" together at all. I wouldn't be surprised to see them crumble hard within the next few years.

Outer-circle need not apply

Unlimited vacation was nice, to a degree, and the more vocal co-founder was very OK with a low-key work environment - people had dogs and cats in the office. Work was interesting, when lasted.
More vocal co-founder was uber secretive with most employees save a few in his inner circle, which lead to a lot of frustration down the line. He also was known to suddenly stop projects that weeks, if not months, were invested into without so much as a warning, which again lead to massive frustration down the line. He said it was due to creative disagreements with the clients we worked with. There was also minimum opportunity to go up the ladder, unless the co-founder really liked you.
The place was all about maintaining an appearance of culture, and if you didn't fit into the culture - young, millennial, "progressive" - you were made to feel very awkward and out of place. People were scared to admit they were Republican for fear of backlash. All in all, the place was a decent spot to work for, but the illusion wore off after a few months.

Be upfront and honest with all your employees, and if you're not the men to do it, have a leadership team underneath who will be. Also, don't place kids in their 20s in places of too high authority; they're not experienced enough to make the hard decisions.

A Mixed Bag
Good work culture, unlimited vacation policy is nice, they're very keen about people taking part on multiple teams, so if you like variety and getting to work on different things everyday, this is the place to be.
Co-workers were great, one of the co-founders was really laid back and keen on allowing people to grow and develop.
Really easy to feel loyal to the company, as the team leads really care about everyone and want to see them happy at work.
The co-founders keep a lot of things from employees, so there's a lot of cloak-and-dagger and constant guessing as to what the company is doing. Efficiency is sub-par. You work on projects for months that never get finalized because there's a huge backlog.
One of the co-founders has a pretty big ego, so he likes to micro-manage and will make decisions without anyone else's input, which makes working on long-term projects frustrating when he pulls the plug without any notice.

If things aren't fine, don't make your employees think everything is fine by using embellished accomplishments and keeping pertinent information from them. Don't tell people that "they don't have to worry about getting fired" and then fire them a week later.
