What is the best part of working at the company? The work life balance. The importance of the work. The frequency of intelligent researchers sharing knowledge on economic policy and hot topics in economic affairs. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Salary levels are not competitive. The grade range is not transparent, and the culture of favouritism and groupthink makes it very difficult for internal moves. The internal job advert is a formality; senior leaders give jobs to their proteges. Experienced hires with new ideas are not welcome. Expensive and unnecessary consultants are. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It's very political, with a lot of partiality and favouritism. Inclusion is a hot topic, but only to tick the boxes; some senior leaders don't execute that by heart, which is pronounced. The staff does some good things in inclusion networks and other community practises (there are good people but too much dissatisfaction due to lack of mobility and salaries that are not competitive). What is a typical day like for you at the company? Very busy. It includes some staff meetings, meetings with stakeholders, quiet time for product communications, analysis and sharing work with someone more senior (who usually does not have a clue but wants to look good to someone on the top). What is the best part of working at the company? I loved working for Bank of England. I worked Remote but was always in touch with my Manager if I needed her. Everyone there is helpful and professional. You could not find a better place to work! What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Being on timeframe but that had nothing to do with the actual company, it was part of the job. The company itself was not stressful in any way. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? The work environment is trusting employees to do their job and they do. Everyone pitches in and helps each other if they have more than they can handle at the time and someone can help. The culture is we all work together to make this company great and help our customers in every way possible and go that extra mile. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Answering emails first thing in the morning and then checking on every loan to see what needs to be done if anything. The BoE is very good if you come in on one of the Bank's graduate schemes; your wellbeing and development is cared for and you are almost guaranteed to have successful career (either at the bank or elsewhere). This situation is not the case if you come in as a Research Assistant, not only will you be buried under increasingly large amounts of work, you will quickly find that you are trapped within a glass ceiling you cannot escape from. It's not a question of hard work and perseverance (I had excellent performance reviews for every bilateral assessment while I was at the bank). The bank is set up to take legions of graduates (many of them of questionable competence), it is not set up to help Research Assistants have rewarding careers. Do not make the mistake I did by joining the Bank as a Research Assistant. Worth mentioning no formal warning was given before dismissal.
