Not ideal but it pays the bills
|
Bard is in a pretty area and there are employee discounts like for Zip Car, Bard events, rental cars etc. The college is notorious for not paying bills and is very far behind with 401K contributions to employees. They also paid us 3 days late and made excuses about it when we all knew it is because the college is broke.
You won't get a job here unless you know someone and you should not be expected to get promoted because it won't happen. If you want a job that pays the bills and is close to home, it's fine.
Benefits are expensive and always changing. The culture is VERY liberal so if you're conservative don't tell a soul.

Nice campus, unpleasant work environment

Beautiful campus but difficult work environment. Challenging leadership, poor management. Human Resources claimed to have an open door policy but was very unwelcoming as soon as you walked through the door and unpleasant to work with in many cases. When you would walk out, you could already hear the gossip starting. Very unsettling.

Elitist, discriminatory culture
|
I loved the work, the students, and my colleagues at Bard. I was an adjunct faculty member and my main work became too busy for me to continue. The administration was elitist and promoted a culture of fear among the faculty. Colleagues often expressed concern with the higher-ups and their decisions to terminate faculty or not grant tenure. I was sad to see certain people lose their positions given their dedication and accomplishments.

Excellent place to get one's higher education and work on-campus
|
I attended Bard College for four years, from August 2015-May 2019. The professors are very dedicated to helping students learn and become independent. Starting in the summer of 2017, I worked as Program Coordinators of the Creative and Analytical Math Program, and the Girls Math Club. I started working as a Math Tutor during the Fall 2017 semester, and really enjoyed it. This institution is a great place to get one's education as well as good working conditions for students on campus.
