I very quickly learned that the administrative side of Scouting is radically different than anything I might have thought. Working as a Scouting professional is very much a 'behind the scenes' and support position. The best part of the job was being able to meet and build relationships with some of the most incredible volunteers and families I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I was responsible for 3 major areas of business: Fundraising, Program Planning, Volunteer and Scout Recruitment. Planning and recruiting people to help with these major areas took working 60, sometimes 80 hour work weeks. That was most definitely the hardest part of the job. This particular Council has a VERY high turn over rate in the District Executive position.
