BBK is certainly a company who strives to incorporate "family" values into their culture. Although there are a few members of the company who are related or long-time, these are some of the hardest working of the bunch. I have to admit, when I was first applying to BBK, I read these reviews and was "put-off" by the amount of negativity portrayed. When I was in my interview, I laughed, chatted with several members of the team, and learned about my now coworkers. So, I took a chance - and I am so glad that I did. (I'd like to also add that I did not know one person before starting at BBK) Not only do we have amazing PTO, I have friends from work that I spend time with out of the office. Our senior management is approachable and available for a consult - which is rare to have the CEO or President available in a client meeting if needed. The truth is, we are a company in a very niche market that is constantly changing. It is difficult for some to keep up with the ever-changing industry - but it's entirely necessary to be adaptable. So, if management seems intense at times, it's because they want success for you and their company. I would recommend BBK to the quick-to-learn and -adapt professional. An open-mind and a good attitude is required (but quite frankly that should be a given when starting any job). Hard work is always appreciated in my experience. You will be overworked and underpaid and can expect zero reviews”. That to me sums up my experience and what allured me into joining. Being a recent grad I wanted to hit the ground running and be in the marketing industry. The management I interviewed with sold it as a innovative start-up agency with a small highly motivated staff and an opportunity to grow as a young marketer. I soon found out that the people I worked with closely on a daily basis didn’t seem motivated as described to me in my interview. As a matter of fact, the amount of prodding I had to do just to get tasks done was discouraging. My on-boarding was a complete joke. I sat through PowerPoints relating to the industry and a high level company overview. Any valuable information that helped me do my job on a daily basis came from trial and error and asking those who had more experience. That to me is not an efficient way to manage and train entry level employees especially when it’s their real job. In addition, the amount of attitude and passive aggressive behavior I witnessed towards me and other employees was unprofessional. Lastly, I want to point out that this company is so far removed from an innovative “creative” agency. They’re used car salesman trying to push outdated services and technology masked as the next big thing in health care. I'm sure if you are part of the CEO's family or a family friend at this point it must be great. There are good honest friendly hardworking people here, but I can't say the same for the majority of senior management. If you look at the structure of the senior management team, there is clear nepotism. That in itself isn't inherently bad, but in this case it was a nightmare to be a part of. It's hard to describe how stressful work can be when you can't trust your own manager. They talk as if they are making great momentous decisions and act incredibly positive about the direction they are taking. Honestly, with all due respect, there is a fine line between being positive and being delusional. I do not feel like I improved any job skills here because the training and guidance/mentoring was almost non-existent. Personally, my time here stagnated my career growth. Toxic is the only word I can think of when thinking of the work environment and culture. Employment at will is abused here, and you know exactly how and why. People work for you, not meat puppets. If you think former employees have no influence over your current business you're poorly mistaken. Just because your company has been around for 20+ years does not mean that you have been making such sound decision making that no one else can be right. However, although you get more paid time off than many other companies, you only get 10 days of vacation that you can take at your own discretion. The rest of the paid time off includes holidays and some days before and after long weekends as dictated by Senior Management. These "generous" benefits are more than offset by other aspects of employment at BBK. In almost all of the meeting that I attended during my tenure at BBK, members of the Management showed their trademark lack of class and respect. They ruthlessly spoke about the personal business of both other members of the Management team and employees who were not in the room. They justify this behavior by stating that everyone is part of the "BBK Family. One of the founding principals has no professional background or education to substantiate her job responsibilities. The other one lacks the ability to think before she berates dedicated employees. Both founding principals are insincere and have no regard for the personal boundaries of the employees. The turnover rate at this company exceeds that of any other company that I've worked at. Employees are rewarded for whatever admiration they can demonstrate toward the founding principals and NOT for their contributions to the organization. The hiring process is based almost completely on your appearance or your loyalty to a founding principal. Does have an agency feel and serves as a good stepping stone recent graduates. Where to begin. It's important to note that most employees are either related or connected somehow which makes for a very shady and tense working environment. BBK deems itself "non-hierarchal" but there is absolutely a hierarchy who exhibit a sense of duped invincibility and unfairly treat other employees. This group that's "in-the-know" includes all of management (with their many closed door meetings to recklessly discuss other employees) which leads to poor management and zero professional development or upward mobility for those who are working hard to get ahead. The company re-orgs every chance they get which means you switch roles and move desks so you completely lose sight of your skillset or interests. The company spins it to make it seem like you are expanding your capabilities, but in essence, it's them scrambling to deliver. Their angle is to recruit young, recent grads who are looking for entry-level work even though nothing about the position is entry-level. You will be overworked and underpaid and can expect zero reviews and zero increase in compensation. Thus the turnover is ridiculous which bodes poorly for the work they do.
