My direct manager was my dear friend and mentor, and everyone with whom I interacted on cross-functional teams was inspiring, delightful, and compassionate. We were all committed to delivering the best product and working as hard as we possibly could. Although my managers supported my career goals and aspirations, it was difficult to grow within the company--it seemed like a low priority from the company's perspective. While I felt that I received a lot of attention and guidance from individuals and smaller teams, I felt like the company as a whole had no vested interest in its people. In general, most team members were excessively stressed. Senior leadership tended to be reactionary and impulsive when making decisions, so it was not uncommon for projects to get killed at the last minute. I had the honor of working at Best Made Company for nearly four years. It was small at the beginning, and there was so much love every day. That's still there. The team - man, the team. The people are what drove me to work everyday. There's so much passion. It comes through in everything we did. Truly, one of a kind environment. I talk to them still everyday. The product was so great to be around. Everything was inspiring. Something new, something amazing. The company will live and die by the product. Tons of opportunity as a business. As far as I'm concerned, very few are doing what Best Made actually does. If they get all the pieces right, no telling where it could go. No ceiling. Too much of a focus on short terms wins, instead of long term strategies. Feels like it's always about the shiny new toy, instead of what is tried, true, and will get us to where we want to be. Focus. Too many meetings. Too much complexity in figuring out simple problems. Just need focus and trust in people to do what they're good at. Don't overcomplicate things. Needs to be a connection between the brand and what we do every day, otherwise what's the point. I know this is major initiative right now, so not worried about it, but worth calling out. Sometimes core team members felt overlooked because of the tremendous growth the company was experiencing. Relay it all back to that and you'll be the star I know you can be. Simplify and focus. You have all the tools, you don't need anymore. Just sharpen the ones you already have.
