Truly incredible humans who are being wasted by leadership at Beyond Yoga. Beyond Yoga is hands down one of the most toxic work environments. If you care about your mental health, your sanity, work/life balance, or just yourself at all, please do yourself a favor and avoid accepting a job at Beyond Yoga. I wish everyone who purchases Beyond Yoga knew how toxic the company is behind the scenes. Jesse and Michelle (the married COO/CFO and CEO, which is a problem all in itself) have absolutely no regard for their employees' well-being, professional development within the company or anything else except making more and more money, regardless of the people they destroy in the process. They are constantly demanding employees to do the jobs of 3 or 4 people, even though they have more than enough money coming in to hire for every single position they need. They seem to enjoy working their employees until they break. People have been known to throw up and have panic attacks before meetings because of the way that Jesse, Michelle and other VPs treat their employees. The micromanaging is out of control. They don't trust any of the employees they hire to do their jobs, instead watching over them 24/7. Michelle and Jesse believe it is a privilege to work at Beyond Yoga, seeing it as a cool and trendy D2C start-up, and use that as an excuse to not pay their employees a fair Los Angeles salary and overwork them to the point of mental health issues, eating disorders, breakdowns and fear of going into work every morning. The pay is extremely below average, and they are unwilling to promote from within, instead hiring at higher salaries from outside of the company and refusing to promote or give raises to the employees who have been working at Beyond Yoga for years. Leadership has created distrust and fostered fear. You sign your life over to Beyond Yoga when you sign your contract. Your life is no longer yours - it's run by Jesse and Michelle who think it's unacceptable when you don't respond to Slacks at 12am and yell at you the next morning for not being responsive. The more successful the company becomes, the greedier the executives become. She is a mean girl underneath and will talk to you like a child. She does not have any leadership experience and was basically gifted this job from Jodi, even though their are much better qualified real fashion industry ceos who could do a better job -Jesse, Michelle’s husband(conflict of interest? Yes!), he is the CFO and is the worst, comes from a banking finance background so he thinks he knows everything but really does not understand this industry at all and will not take advice from any seasoned veterans who know more than him. Toxic and you should run The people (aside from C level) are what keep anyone at this organization. They hire wonderful, hard working, talented individuals and the company thrives on them, not the leadership. At some point everyone plateaus since the leadership is the only one responsible for your growth and Senior level end up leaving. Product is amazing, discount is good and office is pleasant. But the good only goes so far when no one respects the CEO as she is green and straight up mean. The CEO's husband (the CFO/ head of Ecomm) also a mansplainer who has been in a stand in for about 4 years. Ill start with Glassdoor reviews. Almost every negative comment has been followed up with a a positive one from the "stand in CFO" who will write a positive review to balance the negative ones. This is known at the organization and pretty obvious if you look at the companies reviews here. Additional cons: - Absolutely no regard for emotional and professional boundaries with CEO and CFO. They are married and its constantly a battle between "mom and dad." - A revolving door of leadership. All seasoned executives who come in are the only hope to be the middle layer in saving anyone at the organization. The CEO has never worked anywhere else and her immediate "go to" for teaching is to write someone up or straight up fire them. - CEO and CFO are both temperamental and morally irresponsible to the organization. They belittle employees in front of and behind one another back. They are constantly challenging individuals to perform under unrealistic circumstances with high demands and little reward - Everyone is scared to write reviews because its small enough they try to figure out who writes what. Not always thrive but survive based on the existing founders. I would highly recommend an executive coach for the C level executives who could benefit from 101 management training and bring in HR. It is a small company, which can be great until it turns into a clique or gossip mill. Unfortunately, this is definitely true of Beyond Yoga's company culture. The overall energy from the staff is unwelcoming and unhelpful. People on our team have been left out of team outings purposefully, and gossiped about in company chat rooms. Senior management is lacking in clarity of roles and mentorship. It's one thing to hustle on your own, but another to not be given tools to succeed and then be faulted for it. This happens quite a bit here across the board. Overall company culture is lacking as well. If you haven't been here since the beginning, it is hard to make friends. Easy for him to say since he strolls in at 11am - CEO Michelle will put you down. If you got too comfortable with your job, she made sure to put you in your place - Don’t promote within, they’ll hire outside over you - They claim there are a bunch of “cute dogs running around”. The CEO and CFO (who are married by the way) are the only ones that bring their dogs in. The founders are 2 really incredible women that have created an environment where employees feel valued and empowered. The CEO is a smart and effective leader and has assembled a talented staff of some of the nicest people I've ever worked with. Here are some other perks: Fun company activities once a month like Goat Yoga and AcuFacials. Amazing west side location in a modern building with free parking. Everyone works together, it's more about solving problems than throwing other people under the bus. Flexible work environment with a great work/life balance. Kitchen is always stocked with snacks and drinks. ... and, of course, we make an amazing product and get 3 free items every season and a really great employee discount. The work environment is so terrible that almost everyone jokes about leaving the company and laughs at senior management after every all-hands/director meeting. Every employee mocks the company behind your backs. Try investing in someone who has been at the company for years and not hiring on external employees at twice market value as bandaids for this sinking ship.
