I consulted for Biolite years ago and then joined the team as a firmware and hardware engineer. When I first started at Biolite they were swamped with the needs of scaling up and everyone was running to keep up. They have transitioned exceptionally well, bringing in experienced people while still keeping their young and enthusiastic spirit, a very difficult transition to make.

Not so many shortcomings anymore, there are still some areas that are thinly covered, that is an opportunity for those coming on board as well as a load that will have to be shouldered.

CEO is insecure and acts like a frat boy. He and his team are totally self-obsessed and have no perspective on their own weaknesses. Culture at BioLite is one of hostility and anger which all comes from the top. Utterly abusive environment to work.

- Overall a nice crew of employees
- Cool factor of working in emerging markets and outdoor market.
- Flexible with hours

- Awful, awful management, from the CEO on down. He trashes directors, directors trash employees, and employees just hear the whispers about what was said about them. It has left many employees with no other choice but to leave.
- Broken QA and ops processes that stay broken, despite countless defects and delays. The company has spent more time reworking products than developing them.
- Sudden changes in the business model leave emerging markets like India high and dry.

this company takes great ideas and kills them through terrible execution. terrible senior management just doesn't get it...this all comes from the CEO who is by far the worst decision maker I have ever come across. such a backstabbing environment...CEO talks behind your back and others follow. while management sits around and talks about how amazing they are they refuse to see how demoralized the employees are. I was not given the decision making authority I needed to do my job and blamed when things went wrong...my voice was routinely ignored. nearly everyone here is looking for a life raft out of this place...joining BioLite will kill your motivation and disrupt your career.

as others have said...the board needs to replace the CEO who recklessly throws around his weight and ignores the advice of the experts he surrounds himself with...management has made not learning from their mistakes the official company policy. BioLite has a serious culture problem which stems from the demeaning behavior of the CEO who picks favorites and doesn’t know how to lead.

There are some great team members to work with...That's about the only pro I can find.

Really poor and topical management skills...they are not candid/ genuine with staff for the most part. Really poor internal communication and there is such a heavy refusal to listen to what the market is telling them as well.
Management absolutely refuse to take responsibility for their own mistakes...They also have no problem using loads of money on themselves...Micromanagement is also an issue. Really poor planning; they just decide to go with stuff as they come day by day like they're shooting in the dark and putting the cart before the horse. There is also a lot of preferential treatment to a point where it goes beyond anything logical to explain it.

Try and be genuine human first, be honest with your staff most importantly, plan yourselves well - have clear end goals communicated within the company so it people can be aligned and have realistic route plans....and finally listen to the market because it never ever lies.
