Toxic senior management, favouritism, elitist attitude and fear culture

Colleagues not in the "bubble" are a good bunch, office space is pretty modern and social activities can be good.
|
Where to start - the headline is probably an apt enough description. Toxic, egotistical senior management. Gaslighting comes to mind also. Revolving door of staff. Empty promises to change without ever really meaning it. Genuinely the worst place I have ever worked.

Unachievable expectations, people work out of fear of failure/public shaming rather than love of the job, unrealistic goals and hard work with zero perks or pay off, nearly every staff member has a stress-related illness, promises are made but not adhered to which means there is zero trust in management, revolving door of staff

Worst place I have ever worked. Horrific work/life balance and toxic culture amongst senior management.

People not in management positions are generally a good bunch and smart, albeit forced to act like trained monkeys rather than use their own brains.
|
First off, 95% of all positive reviews here are fake and as a result of people being forced to write them to hide the negative ones. And another few will pop up after this, no doubt.
Anyway, where else to start? Actually, that's easy - senior management. All toxic "yes men" to the even more toxic (and fake friendly) head honcho. Underpinned by an elitist culture, you will be beaten down and bullied until you conform to whatever it is they are looking for.
Free thinking is not allowed, HR exists only to snitch to senior management on overworked/stressed employees who dare come to them for guidance. Those who drink the kool-aid are promoted, despite severely lacking in merit or knowledge.
Don't agree with a decision? Out you go. Standing up to the bullying? Out you go. Have a general thought all of your own? Out you go.
Avoid if at all possible.

- Great team in general, who are always happy to lend a helping hand
- Staff events are fun and have been generously funded
- Office banter is encouraged
- There was (to a certain extent) appetite for creative, individual thinking, though leaderships willingness to take it seriously left a lot to be desired.
- Flexible working
- Nice office

- Minimal efforts to implement change. Lots of talk, not much action.
- An elitist mentality in the leadership tea. The term "boys club" was commonly used among staff.
- Consulting team: Favoured and prioritised, yes, but analysts are stretched far too thin and pressured to work above their capabilities with minimal support.
- Sales team: Training and development as far as I saw was non existent and culture was a clear issue. Problems with a junior manager acting inappropriately towards several females were talked about throughout the office but didn't seem to be addressed by leadership.
- Marketing team: Overworked to extremes. They're given unrealistic metrics to hit and pressured to exhaust themselves. They're also often overruled by a director with a reputation of being disinclined to hear ideas that differ to their own.
- No HR.

There are some great aspects of working with Blackdot, but there are some really questionable ones too. Reading the other reviews on here, there's absolute truth to both the negative and positive. Leadership team; pay attention to your people and stop seeing them as dollar signs or assistants. Practice what you preach, come down from your pedestals and stop making it so difficult for people to succeed, you really are standing in your own way. Most importantly, stop talking and start doing! So much talk about making things better it seems like there's genuine care to change, but there is nil follow through. I witnessed handfuls of people at all levels leave with resentment because of how they were treated during their tenure or how they were treated after resigning. To any candidates; Blackdot can be a great place to work. Every workplace has good and bad, but you need to understand that you'll be coming into a constant work-in-progress environment. There will be undefined processes, high staff turnover, big ego's to manage and an unsaid expectation to overexert yourself, but if you can run with that you may have great opportunity to gain valuable experience and strengthen your acumen.
